Hi all
new to forum so be gentle ---
been riding inline 4's for 19yrs now just bought my first V twin.
the guy says the battery went completely flat for months so it reset the mileage to zero when it had doen approx 700. Has anyone heard of this before.
i know how to check if a bike looks as new as a 1500 mile bike should but was wondering if this could point to something more severe.

does anyone do a good manual for rsv1000r 04 model??

how often do yo change filters etc - i used to do it every 2000 miles on my last bikes.

finally what tyre size rear do you guys run, seems to be some conflict of opinion between 190/55 180/50

cheers inadvance peeps
look forward to the crack

Welcome m8 :thumbup, inline 4s for me for 20 years and now i have the v twin bug too :pirate

Welcome to the club :thumbup You'll love the V twin, never going back to an inline 4.

Mileage resetting is known on the first of the new shape bikes, if it has only done 700miles make sure it has had the first service done as they do a valve clearance check at this one which people say is all important and costs any where from £250 - £450 depending on dealer.

Servicing is supposed to be every 6000 miles or 12 months, if you get the instruction manual with the bike it has a reasonable break down of what should be done at each service

Tyres seem to be a personal thing

Sure there are others on here that will be able to give you much more advise as what to look for but basically ENJOY :burnout

Welcome Agreat1 the tyre thing like mille mat said is a personal thing and also it can depend on the tyre manufacturer some only do the 180's but what ever you use there no problem with either personally I use the 190's the advantage of the 180's is they help you turn faster good luck you'll enjoy every moment..............

Welcome aboard mate hope you enjoy the bike and the site loads of helpful people.............Tyre choice yeah like the rest tried both 180's turn in better 190 look the part, but try both.:thumbup

yeah this guy seems top dollar - been proper straight up with us.
had the service and been on diagnostic computer to check ecu etc.

ok more questions.....
i'm going to change the oil and filter. Do you guys reccomend a K+N filter with the standard racing cans or aprilia oem

what about a power commander - does it help low speed fuelling and smooth things out?

what tyre presssures are we all running???

cheers again guys

where abouts in cumbria are you from??? i am going there tomorrow to see my little brother prior to him going to iraq???

Hi there and welcome mate...your bike looks just like mine probably did when it came off the line in Noale....Mine's an '03 ( loads of people seem to think that the new shape was on an '04 plate but it was actually released in Sept '03) so very early & yep my bike has re-set it's clocks...marvelous when i picked it up showing just 1,300 miles, but now on 3,600 after 3 months ( plus the extra I know it's done!!!) Get shot of the standard hairdryer cans as soon as possible and get it set up on map 2 with a decent filter K&N or whatever...it really does make a difference & sounds the mutts' nuts. I run a 190 section tyre and find it to be excellent ( no chicken strips for me whilst on my R6 with a 180 I had immense chicken strips!!!) As regards tyre pressure I go with the standard 2.3 bar front & 2.5 bar rear which seems fine ( however check your tyres after travelling at 'sensible' speeds i.e. over 120mph as there seems a possibility that they deflate a bit due to the centrifugal force...dunno I'm not a physicist but it has happened to me and a mate)......Anyway sod all the crap, enjoy it the bike is a winner and will make you grin like a mad grinning thing!!!!!!!

reply to all

i'm in whitehaven - west coast

any ideas what cans to replace the standard ones with?

map2 - i take it you mean buy and fit a power commander!!!

k+n also

ok goodies fro xmas me thinks

I'm sure you'll like the new bike:thumbup

for tires it would be a 180/55 or 190/50 - 190/50's used to be quite flat and made bikes hard to turn, lately the tire mfg's have wised up and made them more pointy like a 55 series normally would be so the difference isn't so great. i still run a 180/55 as the bike feels a bit lighter/more flickable to me.

The power commander is not neccesary...map2 is done by a suitably capable garage...basically resetting the ECU to optimum output for a free-breathing setup - race pipes/race filter. There's loads more that can be done but this is a must. Cans...the debate rages on but a lot of bikes on this forum have Akrapovic, however if you've got the pennies I understand that the 'notverycheap' Arrows are excellent...but other cans are available depending on the budget available. Even if you don't change a thing it's a cracking bike and knocks spots off most roadrace reps:thumbup

the picture is at the top of the page, i'll post some more later too.
its absolutly mint condition, not a mark on her - well happy
one small problem i've noticed, don't know if anyone else suffers from this or if you know a cure, but ----
when clutchless changing from 5th to 6th it often hits a false nuetral! Is this common, i'm changing oil and filter this week, so that might help....
but would love to hear some feedback if anyone has had this problem and knows the cure

thanks again

Ooh ya bugger! Clutchless changing!!!!! Probably not the best idea...and yes there is a false neutral there, which may be exacerbated by the olde clutchless changing:eek: Wouldn't advise continuing that..anyway the clutch gives your left hand something to do!!:devious
All the best:thumbup

Congrats on the new toy. I see many sh!t eating grins in your near future.
I also wanted to answer a few questions from your earlier threads...

1.) Tire size, I've run both 180 and 190 on my 04 Factory and around town they don't feel that different because you aren't getting over to the fun parts of the tire, If you do any sort of "spirited" twisties or canyons the transition on the 180 is easier IMHO. If you're commuting or just riding around town, the phat patch on the 190 will be good...and it'll look the part.

2.) ODO reset...yeah it's a know issue with the bikes whereby if the battery loses juice or gets disconnected (in some cases) for maintenance, it'll reset. My did that AND the trip meters would reset whenever the key was out of the ignition, so I couldn't even gauge gas mileage. The fix is getting the dash/instrument panel replaced...the previous owner of yours should've had it done under warranty.

3.) False neutral 5/6th. Yeah, I've hit it and there's an easy remedy... CLUTCH. If you need that extra hundredth of a second, work on the trailbraking first :biggrin

Enjoy!

Mate from Workington, i replaced mine with Arrow's very nice and loud:scared

Map 2 is done by computer and an rene air box has got to be done, sounds like it is trying to suck my head through the tank.....:thumbup

Dave millings in Whitehaven is okay spoken to him a few times and he seems like a good guy who knows his bits:thumbup

cheers everyone - appreciate your comments
clutchless changing gear, been riding for 19yrs and always done it, never had an issue before, plus if you're out for 3 or 4 hours constant scratchin you need to save the old forearm from pump. i find if i use it for both up and down gear changes i struggle by the end of the ride, unless i take breaks....

no funny comments please on uses for my left hand to build it up LOL

I'll be taking it round to Dave's at weekend, don't think he'l be too chuffed though as he was trying to flog me a new one for £6700.... but i didn't quite have enough cash...

I'm going to ask Dave about getting some parts changed under warranty, not sure if he can do anything but you don't get if you don't ask eh..

found her quite weird to ride after my R1 for so long, but only after 2 days i'm getting used to her and strting to grin. Need to get these pilot sport tyres off asap and my diablo supercorsas on, engine oil and filter being done this week.

should i buy a K+N filter then or rene box, or do i need to do both that and the exhausts at the same time... just not got the money for the cans just yet

Whitehaven?? I live in Carlisle. Mother in law has a holiday home in whitehaven so am often down there.. Give me a PM sometime.
