Hi All,
This is my first post on the forum, i took delivery of my first Aprilia Tuono 1000r about a month ago and love it, after having jap inline fours the Vtwin is a all new beast.
Iv covered about 800 miles on her so far and yesterday on the way back from a long ride out i started to notice a bit of vibration on acceleration, the engine sounds fine and temp is steady at 78c when running, when im running at about 80mph in 6 gear and go to pull away i get a vibration and lack of power like the engine is struggling,it is also noticable through all the gears from standstill, the bike is a 04 model that has only done 5000 miles with one careful previous owner who i know.
Im not sure being new to the bike if its the clutch or maybe a timing issue, if anyone has any help i would be most grateful.

Check the gearing, you ideally want 16/44 on a Gen 1 otherwise they may stutter a little and round town will be a pain.
Also, the chain tension will give similar symptoms if not correct.
It will be totally different to an IL4 so will require a slightly different style to get the best from it.

Welcome, I agree with Ash but you should whip the plugs out and gap them properly. They should be 0.6 as per the manual and this made a big difference to the running of my T.

The engine pulls differently to an IL4 so make sure you are not simply out of the power band and the huge standard gearing is holding the bike back if you get the rpm over 6500 then it pulls like a train right round to the redline a 10kish.

Only 5k miles on and 9 yrs old? When did it have a service? Could just need new plugs & air filter.
You should have plenty of power from 80 in 6th gear. Mine will pull smoothly - well for a V twin from 60.

Hi mucker, on my gen2 15/42 at 80mph gives 5k revs in 6th and it pulls fine from there.

It could be as has been said above, needs the gearing looked at and a service wae attention to plug gaps or new ones + chain tension.

Thanks all
Ill get some new plugs and air filter, the service light is has come on on the dash so its time for a once over.

Key point is gap the plugs you have, they should easily do 20k on a set of NGK's.

Just lift the tank and whip the plugs out and gap them, it might do the job - did for me amazing!!

Like Aldo says, chain tension is pretty vital too but shouldnt be giving you a vibration unless its properly knackered...

Had the plugs out today and the gap was .08 so i tweeked them down to .06, after putting that right i took her out for a ride and she felt great, i think some of the problem was me and sitting at 85mph for three hours on Saturday with ear plugs in.
When i went out today i was up and down the gears with lots of different speeds and she felt great, the plug gap made a difference.
Im going to fit a performance air filter so i can wash it out, does any one have any recommendations on which to buy?

Unless your going to do mega miles on it, requiring regular treatment, stick to the OEM filter it will work just fine.
