Hey everyone,

Just joined I've had my Mille 02, for around 3 months now put around 3k miles on it, enjoying it but slightly disapointed with the power.
My last bike was a zx636 2005, had that for 2 years before I wrote it off!!Gotta admit the zx was faster top end and alot more flickable. Also a member on ninja6zone (kwakinut).
My mille has aprilia shotgun racing cans, powercommander, custom map, eprom, ohlins damper and some other bits.

I'm thinking of changing the sprockets as my first mod. Any recs on what set I should get and where from?

I've put a 190/55 on the rear to put more weight on the front, backed the damper off to 4 clicks, tightened suspension all round, front end still feels vauge like it wants to tuck all the time?? Steering head bearing problem??

I'm sure when I get the bike set up properly and get some more miles under my belt I will be quicker.

Thanks guys awsome site you got here. pics of bike to come soon.

Hi mate and welcome.
I still feel a newbie, only had mine about 4-5 weeks and still getting used to it after a Fireblade.
My front seems to want to tuck at low speeds to be honest but I've not had time or patience to get it set up, plus it's the first bike I've had wearing Pirelli, always been a Bridgestone customer 'til now....

Hi badgermilk,
Just joined the site myself, great bunch of guys on here.
A big v-twin is a totally different riding style to a screamin 600, i'm sure you will adapt to the v-twin though.
Enjoy.

G'day there Badgermilk..welcome to the RSVzone matey...a great crew of folk walk through the halls of this site ..enjoy it and yer Ape bud.
What gearing are you currently running?
If running the std. 17/42T then most take the front down to 15T so you have a 15/42T combination..this allows you to keep chain length of 108 links std.
The next best combination is 16/44T for a chain length of 110 links....either of these make the RSV far more punchy to ride, delivering its torque faster. :D all good...you won't be disappointed in the gains this simple gearing change does for the ridability of the RSV. :thumbup

Welcome mate.
Aus is bang on with his gearing suggestions - I (and a lot of people) run 180-55 rears as it makes them turn quicker. Your front end should be rock solid so some set-up needed there.
I'm sure one of the experts will weigh in with advice or contact fusebox who can no doubt set it up for you (he runs an Aprilia tuning business).
You'll find the RSV engine characteristics totally different from your old Jap 4 - that torque will have you powering out of corners while the IL4 boys are still wondering which gear to choose.
Have fun.

As A303 says..definately setup the bike suspension for static & rider sag, makes all the difference on how the bike handles.
Good methodology on this link if you want to read a little
http://www.moto-racing.co.uk/Guides/motorcycleSuspensionSetup.htm

I am running 16/44T sprocket combination, using a 190/55 rear Michelin..this gearing allows the motor to pull to its redline in 6th, topping out at 258kph

Cheers guys,

Might go with the 16 44.
Need to get a new screen as well cant see anything through the black 1.

Just checked my dyno print out 115.5 bhp and 69.3lb/ft is that average?

My chain cluncks a bit when i spin the rear wheel but i cant see any seized links

A303 your not far from me I work at Boscombe down.

Pics as promised

Cheers guys.

258kmph is 158mph i think.

I've been 149mph i think not near the red line but it didnt feel like it had much left!!

Bike is looking good there matey :thumbup

Well really Badgermilk the top speed is not what these RSVz are all about...you can get these bikes up and out of the corners in a really hurry.
The torque you can get these engines to produce,
low and mid range is :doug good fun stuff. :eatcorn

Put a 15t on the front and there wont be many bikes that will be with you up to a 100.

Just a quick word of caution

Always put the bike on an optmate to keep the battery charged to the max and if the bike labours under turning over dont keep applying the starter but put on to charge straight away.

Read under Sprag Clutch on the forum

Welcome buddy..:thumbup....you'll end up loving the Mille!!

As for your Dyno print out dude...seems a little low for having a custom map!Mine's a 2000 model with PC111- Arrow system-Custom map BUT also have a Renegade Carbon airbox and mine makes 119 rwhp and 77 lb/ft torque! It's the torque you notice/use mostly!! Get an airbox kit for 2 reasons..1 - it increases power and throttle response and 2 - the incredible noise it makes....absolutely addictive bud....you will not regret it!!....See threads on here about "Badgers airbox" or something like that...the man knows his stuff!!.....Enjoy.....:thumbup

Also dude, just noticed on the pics that you've got Dunlop's on.....ditch them asap as they'll not be helping your handling dilemma at all!! Of all the tyres i've had on mine, they were by far the least confidence insiring (i'm definately no riding god but even i noticed this bud!).....:thumbup

Thanks for all the advice,

I have it hooked up to a charger so thats ok.

I have always used dunlops on my zx and found them the best, thats why i put them on the mille, they are gp racers, nice and soft but the rear is trashed after 1500 miles. Might go for triple tread compound next Qualifier RR's or michelin pilot powers, anyone using these?

Thinking of attacking my head bearings this weekend, anyone done this, need any special tools.

Cheers guys keep the advice coming.

Def keepin on charge ALL the time dude, especially if there's an alram on it!!
As for tyres bud, Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's all the way....there awesome dude...:thumbup

As for the bearings.....:dunno:dunno.....Sorry !!

Running the Michelin Pilot Powers also..great rubber:thumbup

Pilot Powers for me too fella :thumbup

16/44 gearing is the way to go, much better pick-up than standard 17/42 and 108 link chain will still fit...just :biggrin Acceleration is tons quicker but you do lose a bit on top end, but then how often are you gonna reach those speeds on the road. I've had mine a year and never topped out yet, but all the fun is on the B-roads :devious

Regards the suspension, unless you know your way around setting it up yourself, Fusebox knows his stuff and can be found here clicky

Welcome to the forum :thumbup

HI !!! Nice tidy bike BADGERMILK.:thumbup Me NEW to the forum too. GREAT GUYS ON HERE .As for sprocket gearing ratio's I too have 15/42 setup and would recommend it thoroughly. Off the line you will be gone! Tyres i cannott comment on at the mo tho. Dunlop and Avons i've had.:devious I NEED a new pair of boots myself.
