Hi guys, I'm new to the forum. I'm in Edinburgh, Scotland but I'm an Auusie :)
I sold my bike a month or so ago so I'm looking to replace it now. I had over 10k tied up
In my last 2 bikes and I just don't get to ride enough to justify that. I decided to get myself something still fun but cheaper. I was going to buy a mint TL1000R (still might) if I find the right one but my old back (38) might not handle it anymore as I used to ride sports bikes but my last 3 bikes were cruisers. HD Night Rod Special then a Victory Highball then a Victory Hammer S. I still like my twins so I narrowed my options down to TL1000R, SV1000S, Ducati Monster S4, Ducati 999S (might be too big for it though) or an RSVR. I even thought of a BMW R1200S! Then I got thinking a Gen 2 Tuono might be the best of my options. Newish bike, power to burn, sounds great with pipes, looks more expensive/exotic than a Jap bike, comes with Ohlins and pretty upright riding position too. They also seem to come up at good prices too.

What do you guys think?

Welcome, you could do a lot worse than a Gen 2 T. I love it's torque and the riding position is much easier on me than a traditional sports bike.

Welcome I have had 3 TL1000s and 2 H/D Night Rods I have found the my Gen 1 T is very similar to the TL1000s but not the Night Rod
Hope you found the right bike :thumbup

Just back from an 800 mile weekend on my Gen 2 and it's a lot better than a sportsbike, go on you know you want to.

I think it is the bike for me. I really wanted a TLR but finding a good one might be hard. I will need to pay £3,000-£3,500 to get a minter with Yoshi's and upgraded rear shock etc. My head is telling me I can get a Gen 2 Tuono for £4,500-£5,500 and is a much newer bike and will handle better, will have those upgrades and a better riding position for my old bones.
I do miss my HD Night Rod Special but I am not spending £10,000+ on bikes anymore as I just don't get to ride enough.

You're spot on in regards to a better riding position, but unless you get a Factory model, the rear shock will leave something to be desired. Lots of folks upgrade it to either an Ohlins or if "thrifty" like me, one from an RSVR.

Get the forks done too, I was lucky in that the one I bought had an Ohlins shock and KAIS reworked forks and I love the handing of my T

The factory is the last of the Gen 1's though isn't it? I'm 110kg so might need the beefier shock! :)

Not sure if I understand your question, but if you're asking if the quit making the Factory model, you're mistaken. I personally think the Gen 2 Factory is one of the best looking Tuonos made.

I'm only a little lighter than you at 100-odd kg and the standard suspension (Ohlins) on a gen2 factory is just fine.....

the Factory was a Gen II with Ohlins front and Rear and (in my opinion odd) goldy coloured frame.

Check out Keith B's post that details all the models

dunno what auusie is lol,
the first 2 bikes, id stay well clear, horrible things!
s4 they are ok, lacking in power a bit,
beemer, boring!
999s is dare i say one of the best looking bikes and a good investment, they are going up in price!
as for the HardlyDangerouses,

gen2 is a good choice,

im only saying as ive had most of those and have come back to aprilia!

you can get a well priced v4 for under 7K now, thats would be my choice!!!

D'oh! I meant Aussie!!!

I like the new V4 but it's more than what I want to spend this time around.

Hardly see any Private v4's for sale & dealer ones seem to start around 8k....

great bikes maybe, not a v4 though

good example here Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC 2012 | eBay

7k of any ones money maybe even room for a bit of a haggle,
i used a few tricks to get mine and got 2k off, 2014 v4r 0 miles, first service free!

i could have bought pritty much any bike i wanted, tried the 1290 as well and glad i didnt get it!
