What ho.

I'm new here and have had my first RSV for a week. Is there any particular tricks to riding it slowly? First is very jerky and buzzy but second feels like it's going to stall. Any tips gratefully recieved.

I would post some pics but I see attachments are disabled.

Welcome Si what mods has the bike got? What year? If its on standard gearing its worth dropping a tooth on the front and adding 2 on the rear, I have a 2001 with 15-45 runs spot on at slow revs.:thumbup

Don't know if you've an old or new shape Si600, if its old shape follow Tash advice above or similar but if its new shape (04 onward) you need to go for 15:42 or 15:43. That'll sort you out a treat!
Welcome aboard by-the-way.

It's an '07, so new shape. As far as I know it's completely stock. Will I need to get a new chain to run 15:42 or 43?

No standard chain fits just perfect. 43 back sprocket obviously shortens wheelbase a bit but not a problem. And quite lively if thats your thing

Yep think most have done that because the speedo runs off the rear wheel so no speedo problems
Welcome:thumbup

If you have any problems or advice this is the place to be:biggrin

yep welcome
only had mine a week or so and first thing I have done is 16 front sprocket
much better:thumbup

Is changing the sprockets easy? There seems to be an awful lot of stuff bolted to the wheel.

Also, do the hero-blobs unscrew? I keep ketting them caught inside my boots!

15/42 for me mate on same model as yours. If your not happy taking the job on, any bike dealer will do it in an hour for you. You can order the sprockets from some one like Demon Tweeks and take them to the dealers for fitting. Have a look at supersprox rear sprocket....very nice with a gold chain:yumyum

Got more questions! Will 15:42 make the front try and come up at every opportunity? I want it rideable, not a liability :T

Also, I've noticed a gear indicator in the digital display, is that only active on the RSV Factory?

P.S. Does anyone know the torque settings for the front and rear sprockets and the wheel nut?

Hi Si, 15:42 is extremely rideable, front wont come up with any gearing recommended unless you try for it. Basically you've bought a bike with tremendous torque in the midrange - lowering gearing will just make it smoother and easier at low speed etc. However when you do want to save front tyre wear a bit more brutality with the throttle / clutch 'Robert's yer Dad's brother' ~~~~ if you're thinking its going to be like a mechanical bull at the fair have no worries, I don't believe you could ever regret it, its why I went for 15:42 and have since changed to 15:43 (there's about 2% in it) and it still is totally rideable.

As for torque settings wheel nut is 120Nm, sprockets 50Nm I think but don't take my word for it go on the 'How-To' forum and download yourself a service manual

Gear change indicator is I'm afraid to say loaded in my left Alpinestar I just keep tapping till it wont go any further - a bit crude but it works for me cos my maths arent too good with numbers above 3 :confused

Right that's your lot have nearly worn out the keypad on me laptop :thumbup

I've already had the front up the day after I picked it up. :D I wasn't even trying to, it just happened :T

Thanks for all your advice, I'll try and start a new thread if I have any more questions :) but before I do that... I find it very tingly, especially in my right foot which starts hurting after about half an hour, am I riding in the wrong part of the rev range?

I've ordered exhaust hangers, now I need the adapters for my Abba stand and a set of 15:42 sprockets. Let you know how I get on...

You get used to the vibes after a while but then you get the symptoms of VBF (Vibration White Finger), well I do anyway - not bad in the warm months but a killer in the cold. :jack the rad vents are handy to get some warmth and help get feeling back.
The right part of the rev range is wherever you want it really there's drive all the way up, but the most satisfying is much lower than you'd think if you're used to ILF's.
Mostly 5-6-7-8 thou for me (my redline light is set at 9,500) and I don't hang about!!
You'll think you're going much slower than you are if you short shift and ride that wave of torque - suggest you keep checking the speedo until you're familiar. Big risks are a) speeding tickets obviously or (potentially much worse) b) getting into familiar corners much 'hotter' than you thought

Yer, I had noticed I seem to be going faster than I expect, I also seem to be going around corners faster than on my old ZX-6R... Which may not be a good thing :)

I think my redline light is up where the dial goes red, is that too high, or is it really down to personal taste? It's only come on once or twice in the 500 miles I've had it.

Sprockets are out of stock, but on back order, so no fettling this weekend :( They'll turn up sooner or later and then I'll report back.
