Hi, I have just joined and i have a 2000 rsv, i have owned for the past 18 months. Swopped from a gsxr600 and will never look back. RSV is standard apart from double bubble screen and a termi system.
I have already replaced the clutch cylinder for the uprated twin seal version after the old one spewed fluid all over the belly pan, so that was repainted.
I have been reading the forum and wonder if you can help.
Got the bike out on sat and it started first time no worries, as soon as i put it in gear it stalled. It did this for 15 mins and in both 1st and 2nd gear. I tried rocking it in gear and checked the side stand. I think its a faulty side stand switch?
Trip to France in 2 months and dont want repeat.
Bike did start but only when i had threatened it with matches and told it how much i liked Italy.
Great forum and the bikes you guys have look awesome. Thought mine was tidy and clean but looks like a week in the garage cleaning it before i post any pics.
Hope you can help me. Thanks

Welcome to the forum mate :thumbup Can't help you with ur problem but there are plenty of people that will no doubt post you a reply shortly buddy

:worthless

Hi mate and welcome :thumbup

Your problem does sound like side stand issue...have you tested it with a meter :dunno

yes, it could well be the side stand swich, the early ones had a plastic peg that was prone to breaking causing the switch fail. Take the switch off and give it a good clean and inpsect. If broken you'll need to replace it with a later model one from 2001 to 2003.

Will get it stripped and have a look, the dash light does go out though when the stand is up. Thanks for your quick replies. Forgot to mention changed sprockets aswell, went -1 on front, +1 on rear didnt know if this would have affected switch. Will keep you guys informed.
Saw the new 08 rsv yesterday looked awesome. defo on my xmas list.

Welcome m8 and hope you get it sorted :thumbup another 2000 mille :doug

HI mate, defo sounds like your side stand switch, changing the sprockets wont cause it to cut out,but you may have caught the s/s wires when changing the front sprocket ??

good luck fella

Welcome to the site mate :thumbup

Can't say I have any more ideas than those posted above.

Took the switch off at the weekend and was well gunked up with chain lube and crap. Blew it out with the compressor and she works a dream. Thanks for the help. Pictures to follow shortly as gave the bike a damn good clean. Was distraught at how much mess was around the stand. Bike is sparkling now.
