New bloke saying hello and help!!!!!!

i've not long had my rsvr, and thought it might be a bit of a handful being my first road bike and all, but if you want to ride casualy and keep the revs below about 7 or 8 thou its really quite managable, but still bloody fast! i love the torque compared to mates il4s ive ridden.
however, rev the nuts off it and prepare for some proper  action...! way more interesting than a jap 4 too! u wont regret it... :thumbup

I'm pretty sure I'll answer my own questions when I get to ride one but I'm a fairly casual rider much of the time and some suggest that these are better suited to those who RIDE them that bit harder[/QUOTE]

you can ride these bikes as hard or as docile as you like.....but as the last post said once you go above a certain point the beast wakes up and is a different animal...

as for people saying they are a bit of a handful..lol..these are people that dont own them...on here you will only find honest answers from people who love their RSV's...not mis informed people that jump to conclusions

all sound like fair comments, cant wait to have a go one. And now the rains here, typical

i'm 5'9 & 11 stone & have no probs with my mille, it's only a beast when you want it to be (thats most of the time:pirate) & it is a proper gent in town, not haevy on the wrists & the clucth is not too heavy.

blimey, another RSV owner in Sittingbourne. seems the place to be

I found my Hayabusa a little heavy around town but certainly not a problem. It was just a very heavy bike in general and I'm hoping the RSV is somewhere between the relative comfort/low down grunt and the rev happy fours that I've tried

Hi Nik

As others have said try one,but all this about them being a handful, thats just not true.im 5'11 and 12.5 stone and have had no probs with mine.they will always feel better being ridden how they were designed to be ridden, but as long as you sort the gearing they do slow traffic work ok.so just try one and im sure you will buy one. :thumbup

cheers for the honesty guys, reading reviews on the internet can be very misleading. This is the furthes Ive looked into RSV's as last time the reviews put me off.

just need to get a ride on one now I guess.

thanks again people

Nik,

Maybe not information that you require but maybe it might help

I am 6 foot and 17 stone , I commute on my bike (well only when its dry) to this end I have done 7000 miles this year . Having had an R1 , SP1 & firstorm before I find it the most comfortable bike to commute on (in fact I get quite disappointed if I cant ride to work).
I have also done a track day (money wont permit more) were I comfortably ran in the top 1/3 of the inters group. In fact the harder you push the more you get back.

I have done a few mods which have assisted with its around town manners which to be honest are no differant to what other bike owners do.

Yes thay are tall and give an appearance of being top heavy, but once on the go these have no effect what so ever.

interesting comments, especialyy as I did consider an SP-2 or going down the R1 route. I was wondering about comfort but presumed that it was a luxury that didnt come with a race spec bike.

Thanks for your post and hopefully I'll get to see what you mean soon

Nik, just my tuppeny`s-worth on the comfort-thing.....

I recently came back to biking after about 5 years off (for various reasons)

I`ve had shed-loads of inline 4`s in the past, including all the "usual suspects", R1, Fireblades, Gixers etc....and I`ve also owned two V-twins, which were a Firestorm and a Suzuki TL1000R.

When I knew I was definitely getting another bike, despite all the 4`s I`ve had, I knew I wanted something with a bit of character too, so decided it should be V-twin.

Many (many :blush) moons ago, I`d test-ridden one of the original Milles, and although I didn`t buy one at the time (no idea why now :dunno), I remembered that they were a bit of a grunty beastie back then, and were great to ride, and after pondering also on a Honda SP2, my current RSVR turned up first.

Nik; what a great bike these are mate !!! Loads and loads of grunt, amazing handling, and fantastic looks and kudos !!

Oh yes, comfort (forgot with my ramblings...:devious). Can`t comment really on the pre-03 bikes, but mine is an 04 plate RSVR, and I can`t quite believe how comfortable it`s been for a sports-bike.

It`s certainly far more comfortable than the ZX7-R torture chambers that I used to ride 10 years ago (ace bike though, the 7R....:inlove), and somehow just fits me right (I`m 5`9 and 14 stone).

Put it this way Nik, I like mine so much, that I`m just about to shell out more money for a newer one which is a bit tidier............as I`ve become well-hooked into the Aprilia-thing mate.

Get one tried/bought Nik, you`ll LOVE it !! :thumbup

Hey Nic - if money's an issue then look for an older one - you can pick them up for as little as £1,700 and they're slightly better for tall blokes and even gruntier than the later models (ohoh, I feel some flak coming my way!).
Much different to a Jap 4. Whatever these commuters say though, not much fun in town. Try one and you won't go back.
