Picked up my lovely new RSV1000R in white. Great bike. Running it in, and trying hardest NOT to go above 6K. I have though, a few times whilst changing gear (and finding false neutral:whatsthat), blipped momentarily to aroung 6.2K. Dealer said 'I will know' if I go above 6k. Has anyone else had the running in experience, and whether or not these slight blips will come back to haunt me?

Also, I have noticed a bit of black fluid around the blue adjust bolt in the top of one of my front forks (Ohlins). Any advice on the seriousness of this. Will be sorted at first service I'm sure..

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Martin.

Dont be too gentle with it! A good strong run in will give more power, earlier.

Ohh, almost forgot to say.....welcome to the site. White,,,,,,,,,,Hmmmmmm luverly. Post some piccs

Your dealer is bluffing. there is no data loggin on the bike of any kind other than fault codes.

as Stu said don't be too gentle or she will burn oil down the line. Just don't lug it around in high gears. Use decent revs but in a roll on scenario = better bore/ring seal

Thanks fellas. Been keeping to 4 - 5K, trying not to labour the engine. Ill keep a lower gear when poss for the remaining run in period. Thanks for the advice. I'll post pics shortly, it is very lovely indeed! ('specially with the akro's)!!

make sure your up to temp, load the bores on accel and overrun, if temp gets high let it cool down, but as the lads say dont sit on motorway at a steady 5-6000 revs, the motor wont bed in. I dont use synthetic oil either till motor's got few thousand mile on.

Again, thanks.
Forgive my unfamiliarity with your terminology, how are you suggesting I load the bores. As you refer to tempertaure getting high, are you suggesting I rev the engine whilst at standstill?

dude!
firstly welcome!
secondly please dont be unduly worried about running in the bike the materials that are used in engine today arent even in the same division as the ***** we had to put up with years ago but the practise of running in still remains!!

what the guys are referring to is that stickin strictly to 6k isnt nessasary just dont load the engine too much , this means that that there shouldnt be any continueous thrashing or low engine RPM high load , that is , low rpm wide throttle openings try to get up a very steep hill obviously overloading the engine!

nice smooth clean rev changes giving the engine an easy life will give you a good strong enine in the long term mate!

hope this helps??

any worries just call me and i'll run through it with ya!

i'd be interesed to know how your dealer will be able to check out how youve revved the engine , the only thing he can check will be the V max reading!!

blagger!!

griffer!

Hed be able to tell if you had to surgically remove your grin!!!:pirate

He'll know?

Who does he think he is, Merlin? He knows nothing. Besides, we ALL exceed 6k!:doug

Thanks for all the advice, still trundling around, nice and smooth.
Wondered if anyone suffers from the problem I mentioned relating to the top of my fork leaking (very slightly) around the blue adjust bolt. Going to get the heads up to the guys at Taz who will be servicing it on the 11thMay, in case it will require new parts or whatever. Any views?

I am new to Aprilia and to a forum. Your advice for my query would be a help. On the first service the dealer suggested it was not necessary to check valve clearances. I have just bought an RSV1000R Factory.

Which dealer?
I just bought from Taz in Peterborough and the bloke from there (aprilia owner as well), was more than happy to point out that the first service is a substantial one, as it includes valve clearance check.
Sounds like a strange comment from your dealer there mate..:jack

Greg, the first 600 miles service is the most important service you bike will have. the valve clearance must be checked correctly
