I was cruising along this morning, on my way to work, and my bike died on me. The bike would start again, only to cut off immediately. The dask reads "diag 1".

Any clues?

Nop, but if you have your owner's manual you should have it there. Otherwise, I think there is a manual in this site that you can download and check. Good luck

Diag 1 is just the TPS postion not an error code. Basically means no error codes stored.

Check sidestand switch. Probably the culprit. Also make sure the kill switch isn't shorting out. Lastly...make sure it has GAS! :dowhat

Bike's sorted. Apparently it was a fuse, possibly the one that carries power to the EFI. I'm picking her up on tuesday. HIPPY

The same things happening to me at the moment stefano, i'll be riding along and the bike just loses ALL power. Pull over, turn the key and she fires up again, thing is it's happening three or four times an hour and it's becoming a safety issue now, had a few close calls. If i put it in a garage with no knowledge of where to start it'll cost me a bomb so trying to get some info now before i put it in.

Do you know which fuse and whereabouts it is on the bike? It sounds like we've both got the same problem, seems to happen when i hit a bump aswell so i don't know if it's a connection or somethin?

could even be summit daft lie ka loose connection somewhere, checked the battery terminals?
Ck

yeah, all tight. It's pissing me off now as i can't enjoy my riding as scared of losing power and dying!!

If the bike goes over a bump and the sidestand moves slighty is the sidestand switch activated? and will this kill the engine? It just seems weird how it'll fire up straight away if it's a bad connection, surely it'll stay dead if the connections cack. Thinking of seeling if i can't sort as i need a reliable bike. Any offers on a 02 plate mille in black with 6500 miles on it. tidy bike with a little niggle, thats all.

stay with it matey, get someone in the Kno to look at it. They are great engines, you seem to b suffering connections probs.
The only issue I have had in 47k on my 02(aprt from crashing that is..) is the tip over sensor and the battery going.
I iknoiw what you mean tho, its orible ahving a bike that you think will die on you at any mo
cheers and good luck

PS why not bypass the sidestand and see wot happens?

I'm not really mechanically minded al all, just enjoy the riding. It is a lovely bike with oodles of power so i want to stay with it.

Sorry to sound ignorant, but how do i bypass the side stand switch, i bet it is something really small like that. thanks for the help guys, i appreciate it a lot.

Was having trouble with my switch, just needed a good clean, i imagine its a case of cutting wires and bypassing the switch but dont take my word for it. Wouldnt start cutting anything without double checking. Loads of people on here that know a lot about these. Good luck

hi mate just looked at the switch set up, and let me say 1st i have only change the oil and air filter on my bike so far, follow the wires back to the plug, (im thinking it should join onto the main loom, and you should be able to unplug and plug in a new one right,) now unplug them and bridge them with a piece of the same type of wire, if you have a piece with two male/female one each end, you should be able to plug into were the stand switch plugged in to,:) and not cutting anything so if it is that u can go get a new one and if not you havent cut wires

It's basically an earth switch which grounds the ignition when activated.

From memory i think you can either short the green wire to ground or short the outer 2 wires together. not 100% sure on the wire colour without checking.

sidestand

I have bought a bypass connector on e-bay and all it does is make a U-turn right out of the connector and back into the plug and that's it . You could do the same thing with a small hard wire and tape to hold it. You remove the wire and the switch from the stand itself and you're done. Very easy. Good luck.:thumbup
