My fork seal has gone

dam and i never pull wheelies but diff sprockets make it serious fun:)

i hear people put gsxr fork seals as a replacement as there meant to be better ,its a simple job but i am told as there ohlins forks you need special tools otherwise yr make a mess of it, is it worth putting gsxr fork seals or the oem good enuff?

anyone?
 
The seal has probably gone due to long periods sitting on the sidestand.:yes
The oe seals are *****,....pattern ones will be fine.Replacing the seals is a job you can do at home.There are a couple of tools needed,but these are available on the net,....or if you are a bodger like me,...make them.
 
You don't say how many miles you've got on it.
Ohlins seals usually throw in the towel after about 8000 miles.
They have one wiper seal to reduce stiction rather than the normal two fitted to most forks.
Suzuki seals are a cheaper more durable option.
Sometimes a leak is caused by a bit if grit, or a dried dead insect stopping the seal seating correctly, so before you pull it apart, try the film trick....
You'll need a piece of thin plastic film (and old 35mm negative is ideal)
Pull down the dust seal to the bottom of the stanchion, then take your film strip, and gently work it in and up past the seal, work it right around the stanchion before you pull it out. Pump the bike up and down on it's forks several times, then repeat the procedure two or three times more.
You'll get a fix 50% of the time.
 
ok will give that a try in a few weeks time at the moment i have my leg in plaster:)

The seals on mine went at 6k miles, took my machine to Bob Grant Racing at Knockhill to get redone. The lassie I spoke to said, trailer or van it up because there are revised Ohlin seals to go back in but they didn't know which until
they saw the forks. Anyhoo they had the replacement ones in stock and did the job £130/£150. The machine now has 19k miles and touch wood the seals are still doing their job.
 
7.5 K on mine Ali and just waiting to get them done at AP.

Garry if Griff can replace them wae the updated version they should see Yer until yer got yer Bus Pass mucker. :yes
