looking at purchasing a lift but dont have the room for a full platform, just after something that will make cleaning and general maint a bit easier. any suggestions :dunno

Just read an article in one of the classic bike mags that tests all options from simple paddock stands, small hydraulic lifts that basically fit under the frame tubes under the engine, to some of the more costly options.

They also show you how to construct a home made affair that does the same job.

Try digging a hole next to the bike to stand in instead - loads cheaper & somewhere to store the bits that are always left after any job.

I **** you not Ash, that is the noseyest ******* cat ever. He gets everywhere.
Furthermore, he's stone deaf. There's me in the shed running the bike, ackras, no baffles, me with ear defenders on, ears nearly bleeding, and the little ****** just sits on the workbench 18" away, couldn't give a ****

I was thinking about one of the lifts a while ago & although I have not bought one yet the following needs to be considered :-

You only get what you pay for, if it cheap it will not be the best.
The type that is basically a table that lifts up will still need something to lift the bike up to change wheels, etc.
Consider how the bike is secured.
Make sure it will be long enough to use axle stands etc, take into account any additional lengths for them to swing.
The bigger ones take a lot of room up, my mate keeps his outside & uses it for anything but bike repairs.
If its in a garage where a car is kept, will it fit under the car.
Some of the smaller types are designed to locate onto frame rails under the engine - these will not be suitable for all bikes.
Classic Bike - Aug 2012 issue has a 2 page feature on the various types available.

Ash, think that abba stand is the dogs danglies and that has to be the best rear end going

Tiffa, have found the mega lift from B2 products but struggling to locate the ABBA set up you have on top
