Hi guys, had electrical problems in the past and have replaced the obvious brown connector. Can't see the one between the cylinder heads, unfortunately, despite removing the overflow water bottle. Seem to be encounering two problems: charging (again) and random loss of immobiliser light, rendering bike dead. This seemed to appear after washing and came back when sprayed WD40 into ignition switch, but this could have been coincidence.
Latest symptoms: Immobiliser light disappears and Datatool 4 alarm doesn't respond to zapper. Immobiliser light comes back on of its own but when zap alarm to try starting it the immobiliser light disappears again. Ditto if you try to start it and trigger alarm response before zapping. Electrics to immobliser/instrument panel seem to come and go at random.
Have tried pulling connectors apart on left hand side behind fairing, cleaning them, and replacing the white one.
Anyone had the same problems and found a solution?

Cheers

That year rsv don't have the extra Brown connector between the engine by the way ... that was 2004/5

Thanks for that. Couldn't understand why it wasn't visible and was thinking of cutting the wire and pulling it through to reroute and replace it, so you've saved me some unnecessary grief.
Electrics are back on again now - suspect water ingress into the ignition switch affecting the immobiliser antenna?, then too much WD40, if that's possible?
More generally, what a shame that these days, with all the advances in design/materials, Italian bike manufacturers can't fit connectors that work and last. I'm sure sales of the RSV, latterly, and the RSV4 were hit by the poor reputation for electric reliability. Brilliant bike with potentially relationship-ending Achilles heel.
Thanks for your post

the ignition connector is a weak spot ... under the left cover near the tank ... I replaced mine with a water proof super seal connector as the standard connector is crap .... caused me **** loads of hassle

Matters have deteriorated and the bike is dead electrically. Only thing that seems to be working is that the fuel pump primes. No lights at all on dash. Prior to total failure there was an intermittent reluctance for dash to go through start-up sequence and occasional flickering of all dash lights. Took it for test run and it cut out four times, then died.
Mechanic investigating and will let you know outcome

Thought I'd update now my RSV 2009 appears to be sorted. Was having big electrical problems - flickering dash, hesitancy to go through start-up sequence on ignition, charging issues. This slowly deteriorated until the bike started cutting out on the move. Checked earth connections on each side of the frame above footpegs but it was only after a few weeks of testing that a third earth was discovered under the fuel tank. Aprilia's wiring diagram shows components going to earth but doesn't specify how many earth straps there are and where they are located. The allen bolt securing this third earth was loose and arcing so badly it had destroyed the washer, making the connection even worse. Cleaned bolt, replaced washer and tightened up and hey presto, the bike is behaving. Hope this is of help to anyone experiencing similar problems.
