The original Mk1 shape Mille was made from 98 to 2000, in 2000 they produced the mk1 shaped RSVR which had the plastic tank, Ohlins suspension, lots of carbon and Oz wheels.

The MK2 shape mille (this model had the wind deflectors on the fairing, the tail is slightly different shape, so is the tank and has small mesh sidepanels also the engine increased in power slightly from 128bhp to 132 at the crank) was introduced in 2001 again with 2 versions the RSV and the higher spec RSVR with the plastic tank, Ohlins suspension, lots of carbon and Oz wheels.

There was a slight revision of the MK2 version in 03 when they produced the Colin Edwards rep. I'm not sure if the Mk2 shape milles all had plastic tanks or just the RSVR models. Anyway they changed the shape completely in 2004 to the new shape.

The best older models to go for are the RSVR models which have the higher spec wheels & suspension. If you can afford it get either a 2002 RSVR Haga Rep or 2003 Colin Edwards Rep. (Sorry I am assuming that you've asked this question as you are looking to purchase a Mille).

This link to the Aprilia online museum might help as you can see all of the models by year.

I hope this answers you question and doesn't confuse you:thumbup

Shame about the insurance but the non R models are just as good.

Thats a 2000 Mk1 model. They had a load left over as they only produced the all red, blue or yellow ones for 1 year (2000) they sold loads of the mk1 shapes through 2001 and 2002. Mine is a 2000 model like yours but I bought it new for a major discount in 2001 so it was registered as a Y reg.

Make sure its got a 16 tooth front sprocket (std was 17) and that the suspension been set up for fast road/track. These 2 simple mods will make it accelerate a lot quicker (only losing about 3-6mph off the top speed) and handle a lot better.

It looks like a clean and tidy bike have fun on it.

Cheers

This might be worth a look

2002 model R, might just fall into you price range. Might go cheap as it looks like it could do with a bit of TLC, where are the bar ends ??

Just make sure you do all the proper checks on these bikes. Check the starting and listen for the any noises i.e sprag clutch, test ride it and make sure there's no clutch slip. Check the frame behind both the gear lever and the rear brake lever for any marks, written off. Also check the swinging arm behind the exhaust. It it's been down the road then there will be a ding in the swinging arm

Mille's are very well built and the finish is excellent so they stand the test of time well. The bike should therefore be in tip top excellent condition. if not walk away. Try to avoid any that's been kept outside as water over time plays havoc with the electrical connectors. There are plenty of good used pampered ones out there so be picky.

Good luck

Rene,

So long as its in good nick and as Legs says you've done all the checks on it you can get a Mk1 or Mk2. The power difference isn't that much between the two. Get a mille and you'll love it:biggrin

well not overly bothered about the condition of the bike as long as its been properly looked after as i'll be using it everyday come rain or shine so wont stay looking pampered for long! So as long as its machanicly sound then im happy!

Cheers for the tips as well. Will rember them! What years were the swingarm recalled on?
