the wasteland east anglia
:crazy. at last i have sorted my inoperative mode switch ; could get trip 1 and trip 2 but not mode for settings , i have stripped the h/bar switch and cleaned that up as suggested in another thead along similar lines .
i traced the wiring harness round and under the tank on the near side. shock horror there are 4 harness connectors almost hanging in the breeze , where they can get wet !!! . now they too have been cleaned and spray lubed - hey presto n all that bollox i have now got a fully functioning mode switch so i can bugger about with it to my hearts content !!!
i would have thought that aprilia would have put a rubber harness cover over the whole lot ----- if this has been covered before i apologise for not looking but there are pages and pages of old threads !!!!!

the block connectors are weather proof......or at least should be!!

good catch mate!!

ressurecting this thread as the trip /mode selector switch will not go into mode.

. i disconected the battery to fit an ignition switched live feed for a sat nav ,
when the batt was re connected the clock obviously needed re setting , but the switch will not allow me to go into mode , have checked all connector blocks any possible rub places and checked the wiring in the switch housing , the works , all been spray lubed as well .

i,m getting real pissed off with it now , i dont mind a bit of latin / italian ness etc but ive been pissing around with this for the past week on and off .

any ideas chaps please

just thought of this does a 2007 gen 2 have can.bus wiring ??? , if so its just possible i have upset the apple cart by applying more resistance to circuits supported by fuse no 3 a 5 amp job that i took a fly lead off .
i previously took a fly lead off fuse no 2 with no problems for use with heated grips !!

everything else on the bike works as it should

The third 5a fuse feeds the ecu,....not sure what else it does.
Mebbe it would be better to take the supply lead off the first 5a fuse.(Lights & horn)

cheers keith , looked last night at what fuse does what and I came to this conclusion myself , after posting .

not a lot of people seem to have probs with the mode setting switch , although mine has always been a bit trouble some its never flatly refused to operate , so I this this prob has been self induced.

gonna have another session tonight with it and re solder my fly lead on to fuse for lights and horn as you suggest.

I will report back and hopefully have a solution , I,m off to the alps end next month so want all probs outta the way but deffo need a functioning clock .

an old watch wrapped round the handlebars just don't cut the mustard any more !!!

bollox and double bollox . still no joy .

checked continuity from switch to block connector under tank all ok . cleaned all terminals on both parts of block connectors . removed power fly lead from fuse position 2 , so all wiring is as was so to speak . battery fully charged .switch scrolls between trip 1 and trip2 and trip 2 where mode is supposed to be .

upshot of this is that i still cant get into mode function

getting reet pissed off wi this now........ dont know what else to try apart from a replacement bar switch.

all this coz i wanted a sat nav on the bike . i you ask me sat navs a just a fookin jinx. last time i used one in the car i got £60 and 3 points for speeding coz the s/n took me a right merry dance round bloody nottingham .

commiserations to garry and felix , I don't feel alone any more .
spoke to griff at a/p this am and he,s not heard of this prob before, but has has 3 people ring him with set button probs , as in the little rubber covered jobbie .
I also checked the price of the whole assy and you are quite roght a whopping 163 quids !!

Tiz the set button that doesnt always work for me..

If it gives up, then i would risk getting one fron the us... after i have stripped it down and broken it of course...

:)

exactly what i,ll do when i,m back from this weekends fudabout...

i took mine in to Griffs last months as the button wasn't working Griff had a go then passed it on to the lads to sort. it was full of water and they sprayed WD in it. alls fine now

thats prob the issue, water ingress...

i,ll slit the lil bugger and pump it with contact cleaner next week... no point tonight.. this weekends gonna be a monsoon...

don't think that made a hole in mine just used a small screwdriver and prised the rubber enough to spray oil in
