Well just bought myself a set of Maxxis Supermaxx for the Tuono...

Why ?

Well they're £125 LOL

MAte of mine running them on his K5 1000 so i rekon they'll be OK.

Anyone trying the cheaper brands apart from me ?

I have Maxxis` on my dr motard wheels and are ok.

I have been told they are like riding on ice ?
I`ve had no problem.

Just take care and decide for yourself.

Maxxis tyres have a good rep with supermotos and are supposed to be nice and grippy.
My son runs maxxis on his downhill mtb and finds them a good tyre.

My mate rides a GSXR 750 K6 and uses these for road and trackdays and has feck all problems......really rates them actually!!

They are certainly on my replacement list at that price :thumbup

If anyone's after tyres in the North East I've had some good deals from Hunters on Westgate Road, Newcastle and I think some of their deals are running around £130 a pair.

I've got some Supermaxx Touring on their way!

I blagged a set from Maxxis as sponsorship for my charity ride in July :thumbup

My mate ran them on his 955 Daytona there was nowt wrong with them gripwise but
he only got about 1200miles out of them....he rides very hard but I wouldn't expect them
to last very long on a Tuono either...

lets be fair....if it's a choice of riding on a cheapish tyre that has no known major issues, against riding on worn out top notch tyres, I know which ones I'd choose...

I think tyres are as personal a choice as colour.

I tried Dunlops, Pirelli, Bridgestone & Michelin on my Tuoldo. I liked the "feel" of the Michelins, but Windy Fennel ran happily on Bridgestones on an almost identical bike.

My circumstances are such that tyre cost isn't really an issue - I only use a rear a year, Liz gets 2 years out of hers, so I haven't tried cheaper brands myself.

I do know that in the dry, almost any modern tyre (correct pressure & warm) will offer more grip than is really required on public roads.

Give them a try & let us know what they feel like.

New bike has Pirellis on from new, I wasn't a fan of the Pirellis I had on my Tuoldo but I am not currently thinking of taking them off and replacing them :dunno time will tell.

Agree totally mate.

The only rubber i've not liked was a pair of Metzeler MEZ3 on my 916 i bought cheap from J&S.

Everything else i've used from Dunlops to Scorpion Syncs etc have been spot on.

We had a debate on a blade forum a while back about tyres and manufacturers, and most agreed that, as Paul has just said, mots modern day tyres are good. It was also thought that using sport touring tyres was better than sport, as they warm up quicker, and usualy give better grip in the wet. When I think back, even 10 yrs ago, tyres were harder, lasted much longer, and I still had the bike well banked over. We listen too much to the journo's in bike mags these days, and its only their "opinion" about each brand.
A pal of mine has has pilot road 2's on his 08 busa and throws that about with gay abandon - no chicken strips. He got 4500 out of the rear, which I think is quite good for the way he rides.
Bloody hell, I've rambled on here, must have a temperature.

I have to agree, jurnos are testing rubber and going for huge lean angles and track riding. How often do they test 10 sets of rubber to the shops and back ?

Aye Pilot Road 2s on my Tuoldo absolutely perfectly suited to the bike, lasting well
and ample grip wet or dry...recommended
