Hi,

I have had a search and see lots of people with the same issue where the clocks mist up in the bottom right hand corner after around 10 miles of riding. I was out yesterday and saw the same thing, it was a lovely dry day and mine started to mist up. It never really got worse its just annoying.

Someone wrote about drilling the clocks doesn't sound a vey good idea to me, but another wrote of fitting a silica gel pack in there. Does anyone know how easy they come apart? Is it simply some screws on the back of the cluster and it pulls apart? I think i will give this a try as i cannot be bothered getting a warrenty claim on the go only to get the same issue with the new set.

So if anyone has instructions on how to do this mod please let me know, if not i will take some pics when i give it a go.

Cheers

hi, same prob, i took the easy route, heated a needle and just poked it through the bottom right hand corner of the clock, its helped it about 85 percent, still a bit of misting in the cold, but not nearly as much

Mine get a bit misty too. Mentioned to the dealer at first service and was told to take a decent photograph when it happened and email it to them, they would then be changed on warranty.

Maybe if you guys lived where it didn't rain so bloody much. :rolleyes

It's a non issue here in the land of 18" or less rain per year. :yes

ach pissin rain and cold improves yer riding skill,,,,lololo roll on the summer monsoons

Seanramsay any chance you could take a picture of where you did the needle on the clocks?? Or simply give me some more details, was it through the black plastic of the clock surround you went? Does it not let water in??

Sorry to be a pain and ask but i took mine apart a couple of weeks back and did the fix as per the link in a post above, all worked fine for a few days but was out on the bike the other day and its started to mist up in the bottom left hand corner so you can only really see the speed nothing else. Its a nightmare so want to try the easy fix with the needle like you suggest, have also heard that this is how Aprilia are fixing them for real all the time now.

Cheers

ill take a pic, but my internet signals crap here, ive been trying to upload a profile pic o my t but its no wrking,,,:-( if it doesnt work ill get yer e mail and try sending it there,
cheers

Spot on, thanks for that.

What like is yours after doing the pin fix? Does it still steam up just not as much? Mine seems to be the bottom left corner and comes up as far as the bottom of the speed and covers the trip numbers.

Cheers

I haven't seen a post cautioning about the replacement cost of a new unit, but here is a link to the AF1 site with the item: http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=233 So, we're talking about a thousand dollars in play here (741.27 EUR). Just keep in mind if worst comes to worst, I've seen lots of units in our USA magazines lately as generic dash replacements at a lot less cost.

AAArrrrrggghhhhhhh, mine are doing it now after a rather wet ride. I've tried a hairdryer and a de-humidifier but no luck at all clearing it.

Do you mean through the lens? i.e the clear cover of the clocks at the front? Literally - so you could see a pin-prick hole if you looked at the dash?

Bottom right hand corner...does that mean the side with the digital readout?

I've just done the full fix - what a doddle!!!! Hope it lasts but if you'll do you'll see what a rubbish job Aprilia did of the seal - it beggars belief. Its got a really good seal now so I'm sure it's sorted. Get some shift it anti-fog spray and some clear silicone sealer in and start to finish takes about 30 mins! I added a bit of time in the middle to let the clocks dry out a bit with the aid of a de-humidifier and now they are clear as anything.

Only time will tell if its 100%, but mine got so bad I couldn't even read my speed and that had to be sorted.

Don't say too much i thought the same, i did the full fix on mine let them dry out for ages and re-sealed them all was well and then guess what they have started to mist again from exactly the same place, think mine lasted about 2 weeks. And i took my time and made sure they had a really good seal, so now i have no idea where the problem is hence why i am going to go for hot needle treatment just not sure where you put it through, i am thinking its the bottom right hand corner through the black shroud plastic.

Hope yours is ok though Stoney!

I could see exactly where the water was getting in on the old seal. Mine was never that bad but the last time I washed it I used a leafblower to dry it off and I saw it blow water into the clocks which made them terrible.

I'm going to cover the clocks with clingfilm when I clean the bike from now on and I've put the leafblower out of harms way

The problem I've got with the needle fix is surely by putting a hole in the the clocks you are not only allowing moisture to escape but also guaranteeing that it'll get in?

It'd be handy to have exact instructions for this method.....just in case
