Hi there,

Wonder if anyone can help...

Ive got an '03 Mille that insists on taking air into the front brake. In the short time ive had the bike ive had to bleed the front brake 5 or 6 times.

After a week of so of riding it i figured it needed bleeding as the lever was coming quite far back (although it came back a bit when i bought it).

Bled it off and all was fine in the world..... until a couple of weeks later it needed doing again. This went on for a couple of weeks so I did a full fluid flush and change on the front brake.

Firstly there are no visible leaks. The bottle, union, lever, braided lines and calipers are all bone dry and always have been.

The fluid i flushed and filled with was DOT5.1 fresh out of a sealed bottle.

Everytime i have to bleed it there is never air at any point other than the lever, leading me to think the lever is taking in air somehow??

Once bled the lever is solid - no sponginess etc.

...... and then it needs bleeding again with lots of air in the lever.

:dunno

Any thoughts?

Cheers

There is a small split or tear in the hose between master cylinder and the resovoir (apologies for the crap spelling)

So what your saying is that you think the master cylinder is where the air is coming in at?

Just had the same problem, could be the rubber hose or union between the resevoir and master cylinder, but more likely the seal in the master cylinder, which doesn't seem to be available as a service kit.

Cheers Kiwi, its certainly worth a shot. Suppose if there was a tiny split the fluid may be too thick to get out but air get in........ Makes sense. Job for the weekend then.

Thanks again.

Cant see how a split hose between resvoir and MC can intrduce air into the system??
