Firstly- hello
I'm a new owner of 07 and loving it Such a good bike :cheers

But, the new toy needs new rubber...

I see from other posts that the Power C2s are well regarded amonst the members for the Tuono. I've had Pilot powers before on other bikes, and really liked them.

However, I plan to do a fair bit of mileage on a couple of tours come better weather, hence am considering the Pilot Road 2s as a compromise. Other boards seem to have very good things to say about those.

So, has anyone tried Pilot ROADs on a Tuono and can share the experience?? :dunno
Cheers guys

G'day and welcome to the Zone JonA.

I am sure someone will be able to help with your inquiry.

Dave

I've not tried the roads but have really liked the Avon Storms. I've also heard good things about the roads, but like the Avons enough that I doubt I'll try anything different for a long time:)

G'day JonA, i have run 4 pairs of Pilot Powers and cannot fault... However i do live around the ranges and dont see much hwy cruising..
I will change to a dual compound next just to try as i have not worn out the centre of a tyre in years due to the great roads here... i do presume the 2ct's will be great.. cheers Towie

i think the question comes down to how hard you'll be riding on the Power Roads. If you're really just going to be doing tours, then they'd probably be fine. But, if you're say, going out to the twisties a couple times before each tour, then you might find them not suitable to that. That being said, I can usually get 6000 miles out of a front, and 3000 out of the rear on tire like the Powers. :O

I've got a road 2 rear on at the moment with a power front. The road rear seems to take a little warming up but it's not un predictable or overly slippery. I'll be putting a road 2 on the front in the next month or so and then I'm heading to Tassie in January so I will provide a ride report and tyre performance report then.

On the whole though for road use it has been fine up to no-more-license type riding and at that point you want to go to the track and use proper sports tyres anyway.

Some really useful comments here. Keep the experience coming...
I think I'm going to go for the Road 2s. From this, and what else i've read, I don't think I'm going to lose much in terms of traction relative to the Powers.
Thanks guys!

if you do get them, i'd be curious to see a ride report on them (especially if you hit up some twisties), i'd also be interested to see the life you get out of them.

Also, at least with the Avons, it depends on for how long you push the bike hard. I've found very few roads that have enough turns and few enough cops and cages so as to allow getting supersport rubber up to proper temp. ST tires (at least the Storms anyway) work much better at lower temps and actually give more grip at street temps than do super sport temps. Now if you had miles and miles of open twisties they might get too hot and go greasy, but I've not managed that. Closest I came was 3 non-stop runs on Deals gap at a very spirited pace which resulted in some minor bumballing along the edges of the tires, but no tearing and no major wear nor did I manage to get them to go greasy.

Jona, I had pilot road 2's fitted to my tl1000s as I was fed up of replacing the dunlops at 1500 miles and couldn't fault them, they never let go even ridden hard on the road, however I have fitted pilot sport 2ct's to the tuono , mainly for vanity as I didn't like the tread pattern on the road 2's. How sad is that. They have been on for a 1000 miles and have hardly worn and perfom faultlessly even in the extreme cold here in the UK.

Hi JonA And welcome not tried the roads but I have been running on pilot powers since they came out and was more than impressed ..... That was untill I changed to 2cts and i am now converted the one on the back has done 1800 miles in mosty crap downpours and a lot of motorway (sic) and still looks newish, The grip and feedback are impresive and always give me confidence :cheers

Welcome! I have ridden the Roads on an FJR and I came away very, very impressed. To tell the truth I have to agree with other members on the usefulness of the supersport tires on most public roadways. While they are all good and offer great turn in feel / ride feedback I don't think they are necessary for the vast majority of riding. Most sport turing tires are better than the best super sport tires of only a few years ago in just about every aspect. I currently am using Conti Road Attacks and I am very happy with them so far. They grip differently than the Dunlops they replaced and differently than the 2CTs on my GSXR. That being said, the wet weather and cold temp riding is great and I've been able to put a solid ear to ear grin on my pie hole during some serious *** hauling and I do not believe the Road Attacks caused me to go any slower than I would have with another tire. Turn in is where the feel is most different...just like it is with Pirelli-Dunlop-Michelin-ETC brand differences. If I were to spend all day on a closed course or some very nutty pavement then I could argue the supersports. I will probably replace the Attacks with another set of STs.

Conti

I had conti sport attacks fitted to the T and the back let go twice !! they only lasted 1500 miles and I couldn't have been happier when I fitted the power 2cts

That's an interesting observation about the Contis. The mechanic I used last weekend to do the valve clearances on my girl's VFR highly recommended them. So much so that I put a conti road attack on the front.

So far so good under day to day use with no unexpected action. I do notice that turn in has been much quicker though that can partly be put down to the new head stem bearings I installed prior to the new tyre being fitted. We're off to Tassie in early January which will really prove the worth of the tyre as few other places make a tyre work as hard over it's entire surface as the Apple Isle.

I'm tossing up whether I fit a Pilot Road 2 or a straight Pilot power for the T. I'll let you guys know which way I go and the performance under duress (there will be much tyre duress if I have anything to do with it!)

Enjoy that Tasy trip Deyago & as we know this is the best time of year to go there..
I have just turned over 2000klms on a pair of Corsa 111's and am loooooovin them.. no more than the Pilot Powers apart from the grip mid corner and then load up the throttle they feel stickier when tipped way over but thats the only time i see a difference between them....so far are wearing well they do feather up alot on the outer edges which is ok
Merry Xmas to all T owners........

I got back from Tassie last Sunday shagged and spent. Not a bad way to be really. :thumbup

In the end I kept the front Pilot Power as there was enough tread to get by. It held up well but I really will have to replace it soon.

The rear Pilot Road 2 was excellent. It handled some fairly rough treatment very well and has worn nicely. There is some light feathering on the surface where I was getting the power on. The side grip was never an issue unless I was in the mood to make it move around or just threw it over when it was still cold - even then the slip was mild and predictable. Great tyre for spirited road riding.

The Conti Road Attack on my girl's VFR800 was an equally good tyre. Although by no means was it made to work as hard it also never gave her any reason to complain. The only issue for her was that it steers very fast meaning a lighter touch when cornering. I'm considering a Race Attack on the T just to see what it's like.

2CT or Bridgestones B021, both awesome tyres, loadsa stick and loadsa life IMO :cheers
