Hi All
Got this really mint 99 Mille, just run in, spent the last 10 years in the garage I think. Got it home and under the tinted headlight protector there was this wierd melted bit right in the centre of the headlight. First I thought it had been an attack of the massive electrically charged alien bug splatter, but then I came to thinking it was a too high wattage H4. Checked bulb and its 60/55W though it could have been changed back. Anyone know of this problem happening before? Getting a new headlight, can I just change the plastic lens or is it the whole thing, and whats the cost of a replacement normally?
Thx. Ste

g'day matey welcome to the zone. I've not heard of this but thats not to say it doesn't, it may well be too higher watage bulb or a combination on of a high w bulb and the tinted headlight protector (maybe it causes excess heat between the actual lense and the protector :dunno ). New the headlights can be a bank breaker but ebay always has them so take a look. The lense isn't something that detaches as a part of stip down - its been bonded on.

Deacs :thumbup

Welcome to the zone bud! Sounds like your right about a previous too high wattage bulb. If you do need a replacement headlight for a 99-00 model, i have an excellent working condition one for £55 plus postage, if you're interested pm me:bigsmile

welcome to the zone pal.....nice looking bike.check ebay for a headlight....i sold one to supertedlover for a bargain price not so long back.....twintorques is a good price though not sure on postage to new zealand cost

a ten year old mille just run-in? jeez. i've got a headlight cover and does get very hot when lights are on (i switch mine off in day, perhaps not the best idea but think people hear me before they see me :lol) take up twintorque Bob on his offer. in excellent condition.

Previous owner of my bike put a xenon bulb in the main headlight and it has caused my cover to orange peel and throw some serious heat off. Im going to take it out this weekend and investigate. Will post up my findings.

PM sent Buddy.
Thanks everyone for the for the replies and welcomes.
Yep I couldn't believe it myself its like straight out of the showroom. Need to get rid of the standard pipe though.
In NZ lights on during day are mandatory now, and mine has no off switch (though I can easily fix that), it was new in japan.

Some people fit cheap bulbs which dont have UV filters & these can make the plastic lence go orange & opaque,it sprobally the lens cover not letting the air get to it to cool

Thanx Vince, better I ditch the lens cover with the new headlight.
