megelli 125r

help..any info on a megelli 125r

anyone have experience of the megelli 125r?
a mate is buying a 125 for his 18yr old son,although the yam and honda and gsxr 125;s i recommended to him will be MUCH better:jack,funds are tight,irate
still think he should get one of the bigger brands 125's,maybe 2nd hand.:eatcorn


anyway,theyre about 2200k otr new,half as much as the yam ect.
im struggling to find a ride review of the bike tbh:dunno

I came across the place by chance last year (in lincoln) and was kindly shown around by the proprator where these bikes were developed. Dummy, full size bikes etc. Talking to the chap who created these bikes and having a close look, they look very good quality and robust compared to the jap alternatives. A year ago they were starting to come on the market (i could be wrong) but hadn't been presented for journo testing back then until a few niggles were ironed out. Theres a few different models based on the same frame & engine combo. Varients include a sports type bike and a less focused taller bar model. i'm told although they are manufactured off our own shores for lower production costs, the engineering is british born.:thumbup By all accounts, looking at the other stuff in the warehouse, this firm takes things quite seriously.

From what i've seen and for the money for someone young getting into bikes, they look a viable alternative to the standard jap machinary. i can't comment on after sales and parts as i dont know anyone yet who's bought one.

Sounds like they could be ok after gixerhowies report Bigun, and the yellow and black one looks the best :devious

actually...i have heard of them. just talked to their US dist., trying to get my hands on one of the 250cc models a for a test. haven't heard back though. :O

i told him to get the baby r1-125 or cbr125,as theyre only just over 2k 2nd hand wi only 300+mile on the clock,at least you know theyre put together well and with top quality parts!theres even a cool looking gsxr125 now in the blue and white,looks ace for a young un.
isnt the kwak 250cc out yet crashd?is that any good for your needs?

i was looking at it more for a story idea. I'm still thinking a Duc HM is my next bike. :drool

We are havin the same debate at home at the moment, our eldest is doing his CBT today so next week (if he passes) we are off to buy a 125
Obvious choice was an Aprilia RS125 but he will be doin alot of miles and im not sure of the reliability, not cause its an Aprilia but cause its a 2 stroke, i remember my 2 stroke days as being somewhat hit and miss on the startin front, i suggested a 4 stroke enduro style thumper but he is havin none of it, sports bike styling is his choice, so we have now narrowed it down to this, The SACHS XTC125, it uses the Honda 125 engine so reliability is sorted and we reckon its a nice looker, can pick a 2005 up from 1600 to 2000, insurance has come in at 525 quid which is about 100 quid more than the ApriliaRS125

DT125's were always a good learner bike. I had the 125r when i was a lad and derestricted it quite easily by manually turning and locking the YPVS in the open position. The ability to do a bit of off-road helps with skills back on the road i think.

The Sach looks good though. what about the Cagiva Mito?

Not a Cagiva fan, used to do motorcross in the 80's and the bloody Cagiva's were always breaking down, im sure they are very reliable now but its kinda stuck in my mind :dunno

lol,can you remember the bultacos too,use to do a bit of trials riding in the early days,
enjoyed it too.but lacks the mad speed and danger of m- cross on the old yam 500.

My KX250's used to mash my ankles everytime my foot slipped off the kickstart. Big pain. Off road is good experience and everyone should try it. Particuly learners.

i agree 100% mate.
most top racers love there off roading or motards.
gives a rider loads more skill/confidence,as opposed to those that go straight from 4 wheels to 2.
