just bought myself a nice 2000 plate mille R and love it to bits, on the ride home anyway.

i got up this morning to try and start the bike for work, and it turned over just fine, but it refused to fire. i have a mate with a new RSV and he told me that it is something to do with the choke, and to consult the experts - that would be you guys!

any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks, sam.

Put the choke on max, then back it off a mm or 2. Give that a go. The battery also has to be in tip top condition with these bikes, plus never use throttle on start up unless you really, really have to otherwise you could damage the sprag clutch.

i tried giving it some throttle and the dash started clicking at me, the rev counter was also jumping between 0 and 1K rpm.

ill try it tonight mate, thanks for your help!

He's right - no throttle, pull that choke (technically a cold start device) on full, no throttle, ignition on, (still no throttle) let the fuel pump prime (you should hear it whine) and hit the button - no throttle mind - and she should fire up. If not leave her for a while.
If you really don't have time to wait - like you're wife's having contractions and you've got to use the Mille to get her to the maternity ward right now. Cold start lever to off, throttle wound to the stop and held there, then hit the button for a few seconds, then she might clear and fire. Warning: This proceedure carries a high chance of knackering your sprag clutch - a weak point on Milles which will cost you about £200 in parts if you fix it yourself. Trick is to not stay on the button more than a few seconds.
Ideally, it should start on the button with the first starting proceedure above. If not, get her serviced.

Battery is not up to it, your battery needs to be good and from what you say above i reckon it is not, sort your battery out first:thumbup
