MCN used V twin test

Gen 2 is still nicer looking... :D

Shame they couldn't have found a quiet place for Chad to do his bit to camera :)

the tl would have won if it wasnt for it's widowmaker/hooligan repution

(but what do i care, i own both bikes:nana)

You've got me curious.......on what basis do you think the TL would of won without the widowmaker reputation? :dunno

p.s. have previously owned a TLS, TLR and an SB8R which had the TLR engine

i just think if it hadnt had such a bad rep upon its initial release then it would have sold more, and been held in higher esteem

once i get the rsv on the road(never ridden 1 yet) i may change my mind

Oh well done MCN that's just going to make it harder for me to find the bike of my dreams, was hoping to buy one before winter to play in garage, but looking like i will have to wait till after crimbo :puke by then they will have all been snapped up :angry

I have owned a total of four TL's. The S model. Ranging from complete dirty doggs with shot suspension to a mint racer with Maxton suspension and spondon swinger and 145 bhp.
The engine is mental, way more torque than my Mille. Handlin wise all these cock dorks going off about it are full of ****.
If they cant handle it, go buy a Rentagay Harley and tassle your codpiece. :jack

The dogg bint I had covered over 50,000 had no steerin damper and handled well enough to slide round hydepark corner once a week.
But blew clutches every other month... sigh... I miss her.:inlove

It was a ride (religious experience?) on a TL that introduced me to modern V-twin torque & led to my current RSVr...

This from the bloke who starts his APE with a screwdriver and sits on a quick release seat...........................why are we not surprised :biggrin

Ha... it was an allen key. A 12mm allen key, as its the more conductive type.
Any how... she is all fixed now.

At Southern cross gettin a MOT.:biggrin

Pure class Flick :thumbup TL's do have an absolute barn stormer of an engine, and there is no doubt they get under your skin and are an underrated bike due to the bad rep the rear suspension came with..........but side by side, standard bike to standard bike, i'd hazard a guess you'd have to agree that you'd be quicker on the Mille everytime :devious

A standard Mille will out brake, out turn, and hold a line better against a standard TL or TLR, which lets face it on a performance level is how bikes are judged. No one is saying that makes the TLs a bad bike.....now if they'd only compared potential for starting failures and fickleness :laugh

One more thing... A TLS is a so different to a TLR.

TLS - Half faired one has a different frame and is much sharper steering.
TLR - Fill faired is way to long and weighty.

if you ask me the test was pointless really as there were only 3 twins on it

why was the sv1000 , tlr 1000 or ever the sp1 or 2 not in there ? and no ducati's WTF

yeah we all know the aprilia is a fantastic bike but when you put a race bread bike agaist a tls or firestorm is obvious who will come out on top

bring out the TLR , sp2 and 996 and re-do the test as the rsv can then be compaired to bikes that are in the same class as it

The tl was a great bike a bit heavey for me but put the engine in a cagiva raptor and it became a completly different animal totaly mentle;-)

It's because it was a budget test, and you won't find the models/makes you quoted at the prices they paid..

Anyway it fills the paper and gives people who're interested in those models an idea of what they're like a few years down the line.

Hangon here guys!!

I thought the Mille engine from our RSV was a Suzuki TLS engine??? :thumbup

they paid £2500 for the rsv

surly mcn can find a sv1000 or tlr for that money

but then again if they just look at whats on the mcn site alot of bikes are over priced so ill shut up :rotfl
