May be worse than I thought.

I had an "incident" on Saturday, The bike decided to clatter to a dead stop, Engine dead...

At first I thought my gearbox had exploded, But then realised I had downshifted while coasting with the clutch in after it clattered and died, So that should rule it out.

So now this leaves me thinking I may have dropped a valve, The engine wont turn over freely, so if a valve dropped it's likely to be wedged between the piston and the bore...
After some intense thinking, i recall noticing my cam chain was a bit more noisy than usual over previous weeks(Taking longer to build pressure or rattling randomly). Could I have skipped a tooth on the cam and smashed a valve to pieces...

Has anybody else had a problem which sounds like this?

More importantly, Does anybody have a spare engine they want to get rid of? or buy my entire bike for spares :crazy

My bike is knackered too, took it to the shop and it had blown a valve, the bike shop didn't know what to suggest, after some research and speaking to various people it turns out my only option is to get someone to strip the engine apart, check the damage and rebuild it if its ok. The 2 options I ended up with were Griff from Aprilia Perfromance or John from BikersWorld, in East Grinstead. I went with John because he was closer. The bike is at his now waiting for him to get back from holiday, then he can look at it properly. Worse case it will cost me £4000. I am going to sell the bike once fixed. No one was interested in buying broken the bike for parts

Jesus! £4000!!! It would be cheaper to buy the rsv4 factory engine on Fleabay (£3000) than cough that out. I think i will be visiting Griff for his help on this.

out of interest, what mileage did this happen, the more I read the quicker I want rid lol

Scary **** fuds,,,,,,,,,,,hope the sort don't hurt to much mucker.

yeah, I bought the bike at 13,000 and they did the valve clearance check before i picked it up (they had to adjust a valve), then did the interim service at 18,000 then 1000ish later it was blown

Thought the V4 would have been sorted by now , bit like the charging systems on the V2 s only worse . Keep us all informed please .

I had my valves done bang on time at 12000, So its a mild shock to find it has dropped a valve.

I pulled a plug and stuck my inspection camera down there last week, It looks very messy. Rear right cylinder is fecked. Top end rebuild is required and new cylinder for sure, Im just hoping that when the valve wedged itself between the piston and bore it didnt bend the crank too, Otherwise its got to be stripped to the bottom too...

Griff has me booked in for a couple weeks time, I will ask him if he can take a few photos of the bit as they come out so I can share here

My engine was stripped down last night, the internal bore is knackered, my bike needs a new engine

forgot to mention the garage hasn't got any spare engines, does any one have an engine to sell in the UK?

I think CMC in Chichester had a 1100 engine with a knackered bottom end but all top end was fine, Might be able to create an 1100 if the barrels fit.

Or you could give Griff a call and see if he has the spare parts to rebuild?

John from Bikersworld can get the parts needed, but it will cost a lot if he has to rebuild the engine with a new casing, he will be starting my engine soon, it is cheaper to get a second hand engine (if I can find one) rather then rebuild the current one. It doesn't look like i will find a spare engine so he will probably just rebuild mine with a new casing.

Oh dear, Bit costly...

Griff is cracking mine open net week some time, I've asked for photos to be taken along the whole process so I can post them here. I think he has a collection of parts ready for mine as long as its Top end only.

If the damage has smashed its way through the piston it will become a whole lot more expensive...

Right... Engine is just a large paperweight. " valves missing from the head and a lot of damage from them smashing around the cylinder.

It's also smashed through through the piston and taken a chunk out of the bore (which is machined from the same piece of metal as the bottom end).

I've bought an RSV4 Factory engine as a replacement.

Crikey Japanese bikes is where I come from ,,might be heading back that way reading all this :crazy
