Guys,
I have found a 2010 Tuono that I am about to put a deposit on, the guy does not know if its had a map 2 done - how do I get it checked and is it that important?

...if it has aftermarket 'straight through' cans on it, the chances are it will be on map 2...but you can never be really sure without putting it on the Axeone...it's only a 15 min job to swap it over..

Thanks, it has a set of arrows on it, would I have to take it to an Aprilia dealer to put it on an Axeone?

Hi gman, have a look at Batfastards post here, should be able to answer your question.

Cheers Smiffy, love this forum for knowledge!! Fingers crossed I may be able to post some pictures of the new ride in 2 weeks! BTW smiffy, see you had a Z1000 was that the 2010 model? As that was my last bike and was not that impressed hence lurking around here!?

I think batfastards post relates to a GenI.....the GenII (post 2006) needs putting on the Axeone :thumbup

Indeed it does, if you are buying a 2010 model it has to go on an Axone (not sure of the spelling) which as others have said is a five minute job.

Ride it - if it coughs and splutters and farts then it's probably on the wrong map. They can run smoothly until it matters (like when going from a neutral throttle to easing on the power when exiting a bend) and just when you NEED the power to come in nice and smooth and strong... *COUGH* SPLUTTER* POWER* Whoa down boy!

Best thing I ever did to mine was get the map checked and put right!

sorry for the bum steer gman, batfastards answer helped me out and thought i'd pass it on. Didn't realise it was gen 1 specific, but i do now.

My Zed was a 2003 that was stolen last year. Pissed me right off but now i have the Aprilia so silver lining and all that. Comparison is chalk and cheese and i'm loving the Aprilia. Goyya say i'm more of an old plodder these days but i have already bought a set of leathers ready for a track day on the Ape. :)

gman - what did you not like about the Zed? I love my T and intend to keep it for a good few years, but I've always liked the 2010 Zed (albeit the Transformer looks are well dodgy). It always sounds from the roadtests like the best Jap naked, so interested to hear your views as an owner.

Hi Gilo,
It always felt like it needed another gear as you were in top by 80mph, fuel economy was not great 100miles for fill up which I could live with as I thought the bike looked awesome although mixed reviews as I brought the brown one with the snakeskin seat!
I found it really twitchy to ride and everytime I went over slightly bumpy roads I felt like it wanted to kick me off - probably could be sorted with a damper and a better rear shock as these are a big weak point. I had the GP cans on it which improved the sound but after coming from by Blackbird it just did not feel as planted.

Then again other people swear by them, but all the people that I spoke to that were selling them at the end of last year seemed to have a similar experience, I know the Tuono maybe have a suspect rear shock but Im willing to take that risk and maybe get a decent rear shock as for once I do actually want to keep a bike longer than a year!!

Cheers
G

Fair do's. The Tuono does indeed need a better shock (I got a s/h Ohlins off ebay which has made a real difference for the better), but I'd say it's pretty planted - I ride a lot of bumpy B roads and have never had any real problems at speed. I'll probably get a fitting kit soon to fit my Hyperpro RSC damper I had on my ZX6R and dump the standard damper, but there's nothing really wrong with it.
