MAP1, MAP2 or PCIII

You need an Axone unit to change the mapping over. If you are in London try Southern Cross in Kilburn. They are simply the best Aprilia techs in the country (I might get some flak for that but they are bloody good)

premier bikes in doncaster charged me 50 quid , but lads on here have had it done for less. theres a thread somewhere about it , have a search

They run crap on map 1 with open pipes [aftermarket ie Akras,Arrows etc] You can't really put up with it for too long as its murder round town and the coughing and spluttering is embarrasing. If it has map 2 it doesn't matter wether they have baffles in or not. They aren't much quieter with them in and the baffles, well they aren't a baffle really are they they're just a bit of pipe sometimes with a few holes in. Run a Prilla on map 1 to a dealer with open cans on and then leave on map 2 and its like a differrent machine. Can't ever remember anyone with a twin getting bother off the dibble over cans.

A few years back my wife decided she would get some advanced training. So of course I had to go to provide moral support. I eventually wound up riding around Yorkshire with the head of the local police force motorcycle section being assesed, riding the Tuoldo. Bike was fitted with the Akra 2+2 system with "RACE USE ONLY" on the banding of each cylinder.

His only comment was, "Looks like a proper motorcycle, that does. Sounds like one as well."

I got flashed at by a French copper for letting it hit the rev limiter & backfire in a tunnel in the Alps......:rolleyes

Price seems to vary quite a bit, so worth ringing round...

Rocket Centre @ Blackburn charge £25 to swap to map 2 (they did mine foc as part of its 6k service)

Runs loads better with cans & map 2

:)

25 quids fair enough, only takes 5 minutes :thumbup What I hate about some dealers, and I never use them is the ones who try to charge an hour no matter if it only takes 1 minute. Nob eds aint got a clue, I ride past 3 Ape dealers to get to my preffered one cause they just treat you right.

Cheers guys, I'll contact Southern Cross - I know a guy who works there.

You're right about the spluttering especially running down from 1st - sounds like a bloody popcorn machine!

With regards to a 15 tooth sprocket, would that make 1st a lot smoother and less like a bucking broncho at times?

Cheers for this guys
:)

YES. (as well as Map 2). It will move you up the rev range a little, a bit like riding the clutch.

But don't take my word for it ask Don at SC, he has forgotten more about Aprilias than I will ever know.

with regards to map 2.
my dealer races an rsv4, and used to race the rsv since it was first out, which in my opinion means he knows his onions! he said some of his customers run map 2 on STANDARD cans. i phoned him and mentioned the lumpyness at 3 and 4k rpm, he said either a 15t front sprocket, and / or map 2, he said map 2 helps with the lurching around caused by running lean, or the 15t sprocket increases the rpm at any given speed.

in my opinion though I'd worry about the cats getting damaged in the standard cans, if the lambda sensor circuit is open, it will be running permanently rich, not switching rich-lean like it should, so there will be excessive hydrocarbons going through the cat.

but not a problem if you have sports, race or race cans with removable baffles
will have some cans and map 2 soon anyway...

nice man eddy telt me, swappin ower tae map 2, needs the throttle bodies balanced as well, that was just afore the pc111 an x amoont o hunners o hard earned,,,,, was told map 2 and throttle bodies set, is as guid as havin a power doody,,,,, the whole things a ******* minefield if ye ask me, map 1, map 2, pc wi map 2, pc wioot map 1,,,,,, ahm ****** if a ken lolol

I bought my 2003 T with an arrow can. Receipts included suggest it's been fitted with a chip. Does this have anything to do with Mapping? How will I find out which MAP I'm on. I have 15T Front Sprok though but still have crazy machine in 1st,2nd gear, it's like a bucking bronko!

A Gen 1 is switched to Map 2 but cutting one of the wires to the ECU. There is also a restrictor snorkel to be removed in the airbox & a plate in the stock exhaust. This is usually done at the first service. Full details Here

Gen 1 stock sprockets are 17/42 - I used to run 16/44 which is about the same as 15/42 on the Gen 2. You can download an excel spreadsheet from the Tech Tipos section of AF1 if you want to look at what effects sprockets & tyre size will have on overall gearing

V60, I'm confused! What is Gen 1/Gen 2. The chip was fitted at the first service/586 miles to be exact. Is this anything to with the Map setting? Also,I have just checked and it's actually a 16t - 525 front sprocket. *I have an arrow can, which has obviousley had a chip fitted to make run well but not sure how this affects teh MAP setting. All the above posts seem to suggest that Arrow cans should be on MAP 2. How do I find out?:dunno

Penny has dropped!

Ah, I think I'm getting it - If teh chip has been fitted, regardless of kind of chip, I need to access MAP 2! On european models, I need to cut the wire to the ECU and this derstricts teh bike and puts it into MAP 2?

And according to that site I also need to remove the air pipe in the air ducts?:thumbup

The links on teh AF1 site arent working so I can't find how to carry out this procedure, do you have any other sites I can check?

Still confused by teh GEN1/2 thing though.

My new socket set is going to be getting some stick now:thumbup

Gen 1 = Tuoldo = your bike.
Gen 2 = Tuono = latest shape.

My 2001 Falco, assuming your Tuoldo is same year and a Euro model was deristricted by 1- cutting the white[mine was white, it was coming out of the terminal block where there may be a blue one] wire on ecu as you can see on most posts. 2- removing the restricting collar in the air intake. 3- fitting a K&N airfilter, 4- Fitting open cans, ie Arrows etc. 5- it was fast as fuckkkk. AND smooth as foooookk to.

I'll see if I can find a decent link.
