The ECu on 2004 onwards comes with 2 maps as standard,no chips are required, the axone tool is required to switch between the 2 maps
 
I assume you are fitting aftermarket cans, yes ? Map 2 just ignores the lamda sensor readings for non cat exhausts so the bike is not so lean on a race can.
Heard of a few people switching in stock form in the belief it is a race map over a road map but it's not it just makes the bike feel stronger because it's not constantly being leaned out for emissions laws.
 
Yes, I am purchasing a set of delkevic slip ons and just wanted to make sure it would not be damaged if I didnt change the map right away or at all.

I wouldn't run on Map1 for any length of time as it will be very lean on race cans. For a short time until you get to a dealer will be ok.
 
If you've got some miles on your RSV, its not a bad plan to have check the throttle body syncronization while they've got the Axione attached. BTW, US dealers may also have Aprilia adaptors & software for the Revolution system used with other brands...
