Hi all

Im Torn between getting a 08 RSV 1000 R BOL D'OR with 1300 on the clock and a realy good price, or a 2010 Speed Triple with 850 on the clock for a grand more in the price..

Ive had V-Twins before, but only for summer fun, However i now need a bike to commute 60mile round trip for 4 days a week, so my dilemma is on reliability as i will need to feel confident at 0400 when i have to set of for work that its going to run ok.as the job is one you canny be late for or not turn in.

So really asking what is the main problem i need to sort to have that warm feeling on reliability. or am i best just going for the Speed T

Definitely go for the Aprilia. Reliability is not an issue, and although all bikes have little niggles that need sorting out there are very in depth guides on this forum for the little oddities that need sorting. Beyond that they're an extremely reliable bike and it'll put a massive smile on your face, even at stupid o'clock in the morning :thumbup

Right ok. if i go for the rsv, and after looking on here a problems i may get, what is the first thing i should do to prevent a fault ever starting. im guessing the Battery is one of the big issues and can cause a majority of the problems. rear brake master cylinder aint a show stopper and can be looked at over time. is there any thing else ..

Yup - fit an 04/07 Fireblade sidestand leg - slots straight in the existing yoke. Costs £55 (or thereabouts) but cheaper than the bike falling over.

I would def go for the RSV mate, had mine for 18 mths, the engines are fantastic, only had a few niggles, nothing you wouldn't get on any other bike fork seals etc, no issues with the battery or the side stand, the bike is an 05' and was my brothers from new so I know it's history. The other thing you should look at it, when your not commuting you've got a full on superbike bike to go playing with on your days off, if i were on the triumph and someone on that RSV came blasting past on the weekend i'd be wishing i bought the RSV.

One issue that might sway me away is the fact im miles away from any garage to get any work done if its needed so it all becomes a nightmare with transport to get fixed. Unless there is any local rsv r bikers in the area that could help sort things out before they fails.. its all head and heart stuff. :dunno

Has that got a bar riser kit on it. Think I saw that one advertised, recommended it to a mate, but didn't notice the bars.

to be honest i would buy slightly cheaper rsv. And a good condition commuter like a bandit to get to work and back

I am with vince...

A bike like that shouldnt be a work bus!!

The speed triples are supposed to be awesome bikes my mate who has been riding for 20yrs says his is the best bike he has ever owned, mind you hes never had a aprilia and is too short for mine.

Every review you read about the triple claim they are fantastic.

i have never ridden one so cant really make a comparison.

Would i trade my mille for one .. No.

To be honest think you would be better of taking one of each for a test ride and deciding for yourself!

Done and made me mind up, gona get the Speed Triple its at a good price and i wont feel sad by putting the miles on it,, then save for a few month and look at a RSV or Duc for w/end fun..
Thanks for the help and info

I've got a mille at present use it from oxford to london regularly, had a triumph before, the triumph never let me down, mille often has problems in cold weather and wont start. Although I prefer the mille, triumphs beter if you want to get to work on time. Mind you had a Ducati before that and that never let me down in 30k either.

hey jack i have a 08 bol d`or mate far too good for your work mate , go for the squib instead :)
