Launch control.... How does it actually work

I took my bike to Sleep Aero Drome in Cheshire UK to try the launch control out. I was expecting to set LAUNCH up on the dash, pin the throttle and drop the clutch..
I thought the revs would stay at somewhere around 6000 until the clutch was fed in, but I found the throttle was just like normal and the revs just went to the red line.. So I gave up until I find out how launch is supposed to work.
Has anyone used Launch control, if so what actually happens with the revs etc.

Never had it, but would be interested to know if you clocked any 0-60, 0-100 or standing 1/4 mile times? :)

Tried it a few times. don't think it went to red line though, pinned the throttle and fed the clutch in, front wheel just came of the road and you could feel the motor was very restricted until it got under way, think there should be LAUNCH on the dash if you set it correctly, worked fine all the same though, but I prefer a 'lighter' front end when I set off :biggrin :biggrin all done under strict control of course!!

I'll have to give it another go.. how high do you remember the revs getting.

I've used it drag racing. I put it in launch mode (hold + and - buttons together) an "L" appears next to the mode on the dash. I had WC and TC on 1. Hold throttle wide open and the revs sit at 10000, drop clutch. I decided I would just go ahead and trust it, it was quite an experience. The front wheel lifted and I couldn't quite control the urge to shut the throttle but I got back into it fairly quickly and the front wheel hovered about a metre or so above ground. The thing hits red-line really quickly and I shifted to second, wheel stayed in the air through second, when you hit 160k or select third gear launch is cancelled and whatever TC and WC settings you have take over. Results vary run to run but it seems safe enough.

Ha ha ha... great write up! Sounds like sheer lunacy, especially if front wheel is 1m or so of the ground! To do that under full throttle is incredibly trusting! But kudos, man! :thumbup. Must be great to see someone do that! Didn't realise launch control on a bike could be so incredible... although, it's sounds like exactly the same method as deployed on high performance cars, except they don't need wheelie control!!!

So... can anyone furnish 0-100 (etc) figures!

As cosmik says, about 10k rpm if I recall correctly, takes a good bit of trust in the electronics I must say!!!
