Hahaha, at all of the above.
Well I`ll try fellas. Shame we arent closer as its hard to put these things into words...
Firstly yeah make sure the bike isnt lower than you are, and dont try to reach with your knee too much else you will twist round the tank like a contortionist and your knee wont be anywhere you want it to be anyway. And you will lose feel and control by twisting your arms up.
True you dont have to touch your knee to go fast. But there is hanging off like a chimp kneedown then there is a proper knee down. And I challenge anyone upright who doesnt shift their weight to keep with someone doing the latter through country roads. The difference is the guy whos goal is to get his kneedown, forgoes, line, throttle control, entry and exit focus and even speed in an attempt to touch down, which is why a good road rider with an upright style can run rings around them on the road, because he is focusing on all the other elements.
Mid corner lean/speed is just one aspect of riding. And Body position/ knees/ form is just one aspect of cornering. So a one trick monkey dont make a circus lol.
I was trying to help another fella with this a while back...
Dont know if this was any help.. It was focused more to track riding but there may be some helpful points you can apply??
If not let me know. I`m always up for trying to help others :thumbup
