knee down help

Just go for it, lean off and do it... generaly its all just fear that stops it happening! i got my knee down on an FZR 1000 with a wok attached to my knee on a damp roundabout once, i'll try to find the vid!!!!

My first bike was an old GSXR. loved the bike. I found it really easy to get my knee down on that bike but all my others its been hard work
I haven't dont it on the mille yet, come to think of it, I havent even wheelied the machine! must be getting old.

this clip might help you get some idea of getting your knee down :)

I have tried and tried but the knee down eludes me, even on track around cadwell when my footpegs and exhaust are sparking away, i've just put it down to my meagre 29" inside leg , I hang off as far as i can and still no joy.....

As someone who first got his knee down in December (after 30 years!) allow me to give a few novice tips - and I'm only a 29-inch inside leg too. Of course, all you Top Gun types (Garvey, Badger) who've been doing it for years, feel free to correct me.
As has been said above, it's all about body position - when you feel at first like you are hanging off so far you look like a complete ****, you're about right.
I started getting my knee down at Cartegena track while I was being coached by ex-racer and all-round good bloke Adrian Coates.
We were actually working on my lines when it happened for the first time and it was as a direct result of adopting Coatsey's almost triangular lines with a fast and positive turn-in.
I also found it really confidence inspiring to lock on to the tank with your outside leg and arm (you really don't need much movement to steer) and wedge your bum against the bum stop.
I skimmed my knee in one corner (and spent the next half a lap screaming with joy in my helmet), skimmed it again and then pretty much found I could slam it down and keep it down at will - it's that easy.
My RSV - an 01 which hasn't been set up specifically for my lardy weight - is absolutely dead stable in the turns and you'll find that once you get your knee down properly on track it actually feels really solid and safe.
Don't worry about your chicken strips too much as one of the reasons you hang off is to keep the bike more upright anyway.
I think you'll struggle trying to get the feel for it on the road - do some track days and hire an instructor for half a day - well worth the money.

dead jealous !!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st you need to pop your knee down cherry, then once you have done that and spent the rest of the week mashing your sliders whilst still far from your edge of your tyres you will relax and find more style and be able to leaner further. you will then realise that slider replacement can become expensive and probably use it as a lean indicator and lift your knee a bit when it touches, you probably wont be hanging off anywhere near as much by then but still be gettin' that knee down.

find nice roundabout, warm tyres, hang off like you are taking the piss (more than you think possible) and it will just touch. to help matters make your line around the roundabout oval. you'll look like a bit of a twit but once the cheery has popped you will wonder why you couldn't do it.

i predict that you will then swap the sliders over and grind the left out to look like you dont just surf roundabouts! then do a track day get the left down for real and after that you'll be able to do it on almost any corner if you want but by then you'll have calmed down a little.

now can someone teach me how to wheelie!?

never swap them over as people who know just laugh at you mate
other option is to go round the other way :devious

as said before, warm tyres, decent road surface, hang off like an *****, it will feel really stupid at first, but hang off and dont stick your knee outwards, but downwards, try and get your knee as low as possible, 3rd gear, slightly on the throttle and simply lean until it touches, best of luck.

I can assure you that there ain't much on my bike thats 'mr sheene'

:eatcorn

Only your sliders then. Seen the video and the way you wobble around I think knee down is probably a bit much for you.:biggrin
