ok boys i need to finally get my knee down this year have been tryin for years but not got there yet , i have an rsvr 05 model with a 190 rear tyre . my chicken strips are about 6mm on both sides of it(i know thats s**t), my tyre pressures are 36psi rear and 34psi front as book says ,i have tried to lean it over on roundabouts etc positioning myself with toe on peg one cheek off locked to tank with legs and loose grip on bars ,head hanging off as if looking around the mirror and looking where i want to go,knee stuck out as far as i can but still not happened ? do i need to lean further ? do i need a 180 rear tyre, do i need to sell bike and get a robin reliant ha ha .i always warm tyres up first.

when am over it feels as if its twitchy and i feels like i'm over really far , is this just cause am not used to it and need to dig deep for some more bottle lol ? my thought is it cant be far enough cause i got chicken strips :dunno

my suspension is standard and never been touched from new , my tyres are dunlop D208 RR'S which came as standard ..i weigh 14 stone (not sure how/if i should set up suspension for my weight) i am 5'11'' tall..

the main thing that bothers me when trying is the thought that the bike will just slide from under me . i know the problem is me i just need your help to remove the shiny lumps of plastic from my knee's. am sick of lookin a right.:banana at bike meets lol. PLEASE HELP ME KEEP THE TROTTER MOBILE AT BAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thanks in advance boys :thumbup

If you have only 6mm left on your tyres you are leaning over plenty far enough. In fact it sounds like you are jut trying probably too hard. Best thing to do is find a nice quiet roundabout and if you would normally take it in second gear, change up to third (this makes the throttle a bit smoother and less likely to jerk around).

It sounds to me like it is still your body position. Your whole upper body should be leaning into the corner too, you are probably twisting your body back over the tank. Practice with your bike on its side stand and pretned you are looking round the side of the door. This is what your body position should be like.

Just take it steady and build up to it and it will come.

i'm no expert and rarely get my knee down on uk roads but it's usually all about body position.

I watched a guy go round a car park once messing about with his knee dragging at around 10mph with hardly any lean on the bike.

Certainly some physiques have it easier than others and everyone will have their own way of doing it, but i find you have to get the ball of your foot right on the tip of the peg and rotate your leg out whilst moving your body over the side and slightly round the tank.. It will feel like your hanging off 20ft but your probably not.

Also stop trying so hard. try working up to it and as you become more comfortable go a bit more.
I always struggle to get my left knee down and i did it in France once when i wasn't even trying as i hit an undulation and the bike compressed mid corner. i had spent thw eekend just getting comfortable with hanging off the left and it just happened.

I can run to the edge of the tyres and still not get my left knee down so i can assure you it's not all about lean angles. Badger and some of the track addicts might have a better idea as they do it on pretty much every corner.

You seem pretty desperate bud to do this, my thought are that you need to go out and push that bit further till you remove all the chicken strip on the rear tyre, the tyres will not let go if you get them nice and hot first and only do it when the road conditions are good.

That would be the first thing to do so you are comfortable with more lean angle.

Once you removed the strips on yer tyres then go out and concentrate on getting yer knee down, you ssem to be doing all the right things, but my bet is you are not relaxed at all coz you think the tyres are gonna slip away, if you are not relaxed with the lean angle you will be fighting against the bike and that is why it feels twitchy.(quick thought, your suspension must be in the right ballpark or the bike will not feel good, check that out first)

If you try to hang off like a gibbon with not enough lean angle it upsets the bike, so get used to more lean angle then do what you have described and i think you will find it will happen, most importantly, relax.

This is a picture of mine, have a look at the ball of my left foot and how the foot is turned out, this will force your leg out further which means it will be closer to touchdown

this time next year you will wonder what all the fuss is about:thumbup

Oh, once you get some proper lean angle you need to start lifting your knee up again or it digs in to much.........

ok mate what date you looking at ??????

we would have to do the premier as we aint done track stuff before

Certainly that would be a good way of doing it guys, you will build confidence on a track as you are going round and round the same corners lap after lap, that and the tuition will help to build confidence, i did one of these years ago at Knockhill and was getting my knee down and the bellypan of their CBR600's, it was money well spent.

As nike would say "Just do it":thumbup

Not had chance to do any thing yet as been in work all weekend and got to get some 2 1/2 inch bends to do link pipe mate

why don't you ask flick the god:lol:lol (mr sheene shiney sliders for straight line riders)there you go exup 1-1

I have no strips on the rear tire when riding and I very rarely get my knee down on the street, has to be a fast section or a long turn, even when im riding with friends, there all draging and getting their knee up(slider arent cheap :D) and im not even close at the same speed :)

On the track its a diferent story, but stil i drag a lot less than my friends. But I know that as soon as I get low enought it will begin ghhrrrhhr... :D

So dont worry and relax when riding, when your lean angle will be right, you will hear and feel the tarmac and keep in mind that your tyre is a lot more capable than you, so lean as much as you like :D
