K + N Oil Filter

I have just bought an 04 RSV R and I am looking at servicing it. I read on the zone that the 04 onwards have a longer oil filter. Does any one know if the K + N oil filter is the same length as the 04 > oil filter? Or should i just stick to a genuine Aprilia oil filter?

The longer genuine Aprilia filter is made by Rotax, and is 100mm long, Aprillia offer a different oil filter housing if you have the short one and want to convert to the longer version, but both versions are still available, and both are the same diameter, I dont know about the K+N but hope the dimensions given will help.

If this is the first time you`ve changed oil and filter on an Ape might be worth checking previous posts as a diifferent technique is required being a dry sump engine.
BikeDevils Wrexham is the most reasonable for the longer filter to my knowledge,

The KN-152 oil filter element is the same as the older shorter design.

Okay cheers for that I think I will stick with the Aprilia filter to save any problems.

groover if your talkin of oil filters then before you spend any money please give either myself or Zed a call and we'll help you sort out what filter youve got ...

a brief explaination is that the filter housing protrudes by about 70 mm if its the extended type.....

and by about 35 mm if its the standard type.....

So is there any benefit to buying the newer cover & switching to the long filter?

i would think it would help with flow? Oil would flow faster? Maybe under lower pressure though? Just guessing. There must be a reason or they wouldn't have 'improved' it
