jet40 - hard to get out??

O

OZMILLE

Hey guys

Well, after some great help with the HOOKED airbox, throttle grips and speedo problems, happy to say that all are done and I am feeling pretty
great about the DIY thing :thumbup

NOW, I have the jet40 mode to be done, tried last week, think I have the right one but when I put in the flathead screwdriver it seems like it just wont budge the jet, could be stuck??

Are there other methods to be used on these when they are difficult to get out, when love some help with this being one of my last mods before she is back on the road again after 3 months :doug

Cheers Pete

PS: Pretty sure I have the right hole (my wife isnt so sure :devious) however I had not come across a pic showing exactly where it is.

Take a looky here. I had trouble trying to get mine out. This link will explain how I did it. Ill have a hunt around for a photo. I know Spoonz has posted one somewhere.

I guess your are refering to the oil jet - right!:pirate

You could try warming the engine to see if that helps to get it out - before you go at it with a drill.

The head of mine was snapped off, so I had no other choice.

For sure will try that first!!

If I start drilling is there any chance fragments can fall into the oil sump and cause major damage???

Cheers

I drilled mine out VERY slowly. I changed the oil 1K later and found no bits in it. The brass is very soft.

Investments can go down as well as up. Your house is at risk etc etc

You need a screwdriver the exact size of the hole (4mm i think) the brass jet is very flimsy so be very careful if you don't have the correct size....you could grind one down to fit :thumbup.

If you manage to unscrew it ok, then get yourself a cocktail stick to stick in the jet hole, works a treat :thumbup

There is a thread on this somewhere i'll have a looksy :thumbup

Thats exactly what i did.

My first attempt failed and i was worried i would round the jet off leaving the only option of drilling it out so i measured the new jet and made a screw driver that was the perfect fit, the slots are the same size. Mine was in very tight, i was told heating the engine before would help.

Glad its all done, they do make a difference
