Now that it has been made official, and before the contract is awarded, which will undoubtedly containing a clause silencing any criticism of the tires or tire company, reaction to the announcement of a single tire rule from figures directly involved in the paddock is starting to emerge.

The racing websites Autosport.com and GPOne.com have one such response, from no less a figure than Jeremy Burgess, the technical genius behind both Mick Doohan's and Valentino Rossi's 11 combined world championships. Burgess is emphatic: in JB's opinion, the move to a single tire rule is a mistake.

"I'm against it, this is a prototype championship and you need as many prototype factors in it, driving it forward, as possible. If it's dumbed down, we could very easily end up as a pseudo Superbike championship."

Burgess doesn't think the switch to a single tire supplier will make the racing any closer, either. "The cream will always rise to the top" he said on Autosport.com. Burgess also pointed out that in his opinion, the best battle at Motegi was between Lorenzo on Michelins and Pedrosa on Bridgestone tires.

tyre, tyres, but we never tire...or do we! :nana

i thought motogp was the cutting edge of development, what have we got now?

your bike goes too well, lets slow you down,

you spend lots of money/time developing something good, then have to either not use it or give it away to everyone else

this change isnt going to bring developments to road bikes any time in the future,

if superbikes go the other way, we could see them lapping quicker than GP bikes then which is the premier series???

I can see the single tyre rule moving back into the dark days of old whereby the top three or four riders get the best tyres and clear off whilst the remainder are left moaning about the "standard" issue tyres they are given. Closer racing, I think not.......

Not to mention the fact that one tyre will not suit all of the different bikes due to individual needs and characteristics.

Stupid idea! :nana

As we all know, one size rubber don't fit all of us :eatcorn

single tyre rule could work look at WSBK its made that better TV and closer racing!!!!!

single tyre rule could work look at WSBK its made that better TV and closer racing!!!!!

It would if the they all got the same tyres as is the case in WSB , trouble is as Caterpiller said in the past the top teams got different/better ?? tyres than the non-factory teams .

Rawly

remember when haslam et al were all on works bikes with second grade michelins. , chances of winning ..... zilch.

Since when has it been all about close racing, its supposed to be about who can build the fastest bike within a simple set of rules, and then the technology is supposed to trickle down to the road!!

me I would ban carbon brakes as they seem to be ever coming to the road.

in fact I think i would go as far as two wheels a minimum weight and a maximum fuel capacity and leave them to it
