Went to start it up, just a spinning sound, but not actually turning the engine over...
Sure this has come up before but havent got time to search through!

Its not charge, because i even tried hooking up to a neighbours work van, and was reading 14v on the dash. Still just the spinning whirring noise. The engine turns over maybe twice at the begining then just the noise....

Typical had loads to do today and the car is SORN Doh!

when my sprag went ,it made a hell of a noise not a "spinning" sound,
maybe your starter aint engaging properly .

Thats what I was thinking. Because somethings whirring up fast, but its not taking the engine with it .... :roll

does sound a bit like the sprag buddy......sorry,

has it been making some harsh clattering sounds from the left hand side of the motor recently? or at all??

dont be too scared either mate its not that much of an hurrendous job anymore.....

if i can help let me know!!
Cheers

Hey Grifftser
Hmm yeah cheer for that lol... may give you a ring in a bit....

Definetly the sprag , mine did that spinning and not catching the engine , not to difficult a job just remember to really the get the flywheel nice and hot ( I used a hot air gun ) while removing it with the puller ,I used a BMW sprag much cheaper third of the price of Aprilia , Oh and Griff ( aprilia performance ) has generator gaskets in stock with fast delivery lol

spose a quick way to check is whip the starter off and see if the cog what the starter turns , turns both ways ?

if it does then its the sprag

Cheers guys, just had a word with the Griff and he reckons its the sprag too. Doh!
Wont be doing it myself has dont have the tools, workspace or patience to do it anymore!
It was going into Griff for a full service anyway so we`ll get it all done in one.
Just got to get the bike to Tamworth somehow now!!

sorry to hear of your predicament steve .......thing always go wrong when it seems most inconvenient .... can vouch for that
Hope you get it sorted soon!! :thumbup

Have you rac or aa or similar recovery , you could make out the bike broke down at get it recovered too Griffs on the day you've booked it in ,

Steve, I'm hopeful to do a deal on a bike in Heathfield over the next few days, and coincidentally am still "negotiating" with a guy in Tamworth for his bike (if he ever replies to text/email/phone calls :roll). So if it comes off, and suits you, I can collect yours with the Heathfield bike, drop it at Griffs when I collect the Tamworth one. It'll be the same day so no worries about me robbing all the bling of yer bike :sly

No certainty things will pan out on both scores though.

Hey Steve, at least it didnt go in the Summer time 1st thing on a bright & sunny Sunday morning!!

Hopefully when its done- its done & thats another thing to cross off the list!!

Thanks man. Thats very true. Yeah hopefully! Fingers crossed!!

Cheers Thebees.
The Griffster is sorting it for me. And he is putting a new rotax unit in. But apprently they dont go through Aprilia for the rotax bits, and get them straight from Rotax, making them the same price as the BMW part, and I`m asuming the KTM part too. And thats good enough for me :thumbup

Hey Paul, sorry man only just saw your post. Well its booked in Griffs for monday (6th I think), I`v put a deposit down on a hire van, coz I could find any other way to get it there.... I dont know if thats returnable, and dont know when and what time you were planning on doing this?? I aim to leave worthing "damn" early, as Griff is doing a full service same time, so we are looking full day in the workshop (destroying his tea and biscuit supply)...

If any of that looks feasable the by all means wouldnt turn down some help getting it there. Could always ride back ( in the snow, on sc0 superorsas will be ...interestig lol) :thumbup

Hey Steve, both deals yet to come off, the Tamworth bloke seems to have disappeared of the face of the earth, and I'm in Le Touquet for the enduro from this afternoon until Tuesday, so can't oblige with Monday mate.

Best of luck

buzzin for it buddy!!

better stock up on the biccies then!!
