Only had the Tuono (2008) about a month, but twice in that time i've hit a false neutral, once going from 5th-6th and this weekend when downshifting. Its a bit unerving as i was heading into a corner, then a loud clunk as i tapped the gearshift again and it went into gear. Rides fine but just wondered if its me being new to the bike, or its something nasty creeping in to the gearbox! Only done 2800 miles so hope not!

Really doesn't sound like it to me. If I had to guess, I would say you need to be shifting a little more forcefully. All my bikes will give an occasional false neutral when I'm shifting too easy. You're not hurting the transmission if you go ahead and give it a firm boot. On the contrary, that clunk you heard is probably far more damaging than shifting positively.

check your chain tension, mine started doing this after a service - chain was just a little too tight

Never hit a false neutral on my CBR600rr, so guessing its just a case of being a bit more forceful as you say. The clunk was probably only as i was going fast into a roundabout, changed down then realised i was cruising out of gear, tap down clunked it into gear. The Tuono has been pretty smooth changing gear surprised me really. Chain may actually be a little loose, adjusted it the other day as i put the smaller sprocket on the front and think i was cautious on the adjusting.

umm thats worrying i have a 57 plate ive only done 300 miles on it but have not missed a gear yet its done 2300 miles so im thinking chain tension how does it ride with the 15 tooth sprocket ? is it the way to go ?

Tuono's are mens bikes. I personally like the fact you have put them in gear.
Like when you put em in 1st. Clunk, right we're off.:thumbup

The 15T sprocket has made all the difference to me, rides much better. Seems to have right speed to gear now. Once i've gone through puberty then i guess i'll hopefully not get a missed gear again.

Touche!

I must admit to finding a few falsies too, when my bike was new. NO, not those kind of falsies Nobist, pay attention lad. As the engine/gearbox bedded in, these disappeared.

I've got a 2009 factory with 3500 miles on it and does it too. Sometimes it even jumps out of gear!!! I was really worried about it for a while but it's not so bad now i've put the 15t on the front. Most of my bikes have been bought new ( honda/kawasaki ) and this is the first one I've had this problem with

Andiamo has ALWAYS gone *clunk* when shifting into first. As I am used to the old shovel going *CLUNK* when shifting into first, I have never been alarmed. Like the man said, it's a MAN'S bike. Andiamo occasionally blows a shift and gives me a false neutral, but again, only when I don't give her a firm toe. The Tuono is definitely a bike that does NOT like a light hand. Be firm my young friend, and ride hard, and she will reward you beyond your wildest dreams!

my 07 T 2000mls had it from new,,,,had a few missed gears but only 5th to 6th and a cpl times 6th to 5th,,
i saw a thread on here somewhere where the same thing was mentioned saying it was just one of the aprilia traits

I've had a couple of falsies 5th to 6th also. I can live with that. The bike is lush, so I can forgive the minor faults

I`ve had a false neutral on all bikes , it is as biker 11 has said. A bit timid on the change. If you do it shift UP as this doesn`t make such a big clunk and less damage ? inside the box.

ALL THIS TALK ABOUT BOXES IS WORRYING ME STOP IT.:no

Who's coming shopping this weekend .

certainly not clunk click every trip then! The bike does like to be ridden harder than the CBR, and after 6 years of the old bike i just guess i'll just have to learn to be a man again.

You might of just been being a tad carefull with it mate , with it being new an all, very understandable. Most on here probably have the advantage of owning one before or for a while.
I haven't owned a Jap for years and no doubt it would take some getting used to.
Tell a lie. I had a KLX 300 and you had to ride that like you hated it.
Think it was mutual cause it kept chucking me off :bawling
