Here is a letter ( in full) as printed in the current issue of the CSMA club magazine... i welcome all your comments:

As a car driver,I am aware of the significant safety features that have been made compulsory over the years such as airbags, seatbelts, crumple zones and laminated windscreens etc.I know that due to these changes crashes become more survivable and I have been happy to pay the subsequent cost to protect my life and that of pedestrians. But what about motorcycles?
Last year, of the 2538 (a record low) people killed on the uk roads, 493 were motorcyclists.I have no idea of the ratio of four wheeled vehicles to two wheelers, but I don't see every one in five vehicles on the roads being a two wheeler.
Car drivers have accepted that they have to incur greater costs to increase safety.Isn't it time motorcyclists accept that their vehicles should face radical redesign with the consequent cost implications-just like car drivers have had to do-to reduce the appalling death rate among them and to protect other road users?

Words fail me!...that was awarded star letter rather worryingly :crazy

Frankly I'm not surprised. I'm an IAM member and recently they published a letter from a (car) member stating that the IAM should have nothing to do with motorcyclists as they're all speed crazy and a disgrace to the club etc, etc. The motorcyclists response was rather low key (compared to what he'd have got on this forum, for instance) but there are self righteous clowns out there who think we are the devil's spawn and responsible for everything wrong with the world.
On a bad day I feel like giving up motorcycling, but then I'd be giving in to the b*stards wouldn't I?

There is not much you can do to a motor cycle to make it safe. Speed restrictions ?????,still get hurt riding a push iron . The car bloke obviously hasn`t got a clue about Motor Cycling and is peeved because HE has to pay for extra safety gear when he buys a car. It`s a different kettle of fish

He's a civil servant - so what do you expect ! Far too much time on his governemnt funded hands to even think about writing such a letter ! No doubt he'd want compulsary leg protectors, bar end mitts and all over hi-viz clobber! Not to mention the man walking in front with a flag.............
Bet he drives a rover, wears a hat and has a pipe...
;)

I'm curious as to how many of those riders killed was by inattentive drivers, assfucks that were texting while smoking while drinking a coffee ad nauseum. Funny thing about statistics is that you can skew them to your own preferences or even make up your own. I say take him into an alley, make him kneel down and then aerate the cranium... It might deepen the gene pool a little. Or is that to radical a solution...

There's too many of these idiots about who like to spout forth about stuff they know nothing of. As already said, he probably is one of the jerks who drive while texting, smoking or rubbing his knob and squinting at his own reflection in his mirror.
Treat his comments with the contempt they deserve.

Thing is, while I appreciate some people have zero interest in motoring and merely want to get from a to b in a safe metal box, I think its a bit rich when they start having a go at my (much more fun) way of getting from a to b...personal responsibility and all that!
Besides, he probably composed that letter in his narrow minded head whilst sitting in a traffic jam as a couple of bikes filter through......How dare they!!!

So would the "radical redesign" of motorbikes include putting a metal cage over the top along with 4 wheels for greater stability. We could then rename them as "cars". What an arse.

Doesn't seem much point there's feck all in there anyway. Looks like he's talking out his arse.

Aldo.
