presumably the bit between the nut and the body of the mirror is rubber and compresses whilst being tightened which will grip the inside of the bar .
you will have to tighten until you can force the rubber bit inside the bar then fully tighten until it has gripped tight !!
or just chuck the fookers away and make do with the standard issue mirrors
the ones I fitted to my gs 1000 special were useless a waste of 15 quid !!!.
