Indicator fault

Just been out for a chilly blast on the beast. It's started to develop this anoying little niggle with the bloody indicators.

Every now and again, more so on bumpy roads, the indicators just turn themselves on? I notice the light flashing on the dash but don't know which side is flashing? They cancel when I press the indicator button on the left clip on but does anyone have any ideas what is causing this?

Mines an 07 bike if that makes a difference?

Could be a switch issue but I suspect it's being caused by one of those crappy Aprilia flasher relays.

Now your gonna tell me that you have replaced the relay with an LED solid state one, aren't you!

No mate I haven't replaced anything yet. I was suspecting the relay myself. I've continued on my blast and it is definately vibration related. It happens when down shifting on decelaration and smooth road or just accelrating away. There's no regularity with it. I'll replace the relay first. What's this one you've mentioned?

After riding through a busy town this afternoon and using my indicators a fair amount they then behaved themselves for next 50 miles or so. Very strange but I'll monitor it on the next ride.

Don't you just love Italian assembled electrics :devious

I was out on a ride Sat and thought I had fallen prey to the dreaded brown connector when it seemed very sluggish to turn over after stopping. Did start tho' and it seemed ok thereafter, then I'm sure the HID started ''pulsing'' for a while during the ride home later.

Think I'm going to go thru the electrics over the winter and replace all the known suspect items just to be on the safe side.

Quite fancy one of those early l/h side switchgear sets as well, does anyone else think the dipswitch is an abomination as well as having the indicators in the wrong place?
Really can't imagine what possessed Aprilia to change the usual switchgear to this setup,is it still the same on the new shape ones?

Yes it is still the same on the new shape. It took me ages to get used to it and kept hitting the horn everytime i wanted the indicator, but now i'm used to it i don't think i would change it. It is bloody awkward though:rant

Likewise... Though I'm used to it now. As it's been getting darker, I'm getting the horn instead of the headlight dipper. Can't win really :)
