Immobiliser/alarm

Got a prob with my immobiliser on my 04 rsvr factory, the immobilisor light is constantly on previous answers said that means the keys are not coded to the immobiliser ecu (which is correct) and gave a procedure to code them, tried it but nothing happend, eventually took the side fairing off to check the conections and found that there is a black/white wire and a pink wire coming from the ecu that have a poor quality female conector on them with the same (black/white & pink) wires on the loom side both of which are in to one (poor quality) female conector! Because all the conectors are female they cannot just be unplugged, so was there something else plugged in (an alarm maybe?) at sometime or has someone cut these particular wires to bodge round a problem with the immobilisor and just bodged a conector on the end to finish the wire off! Any ideas chaps?
 
Hi Spoonz, not sure how to get photos uploaded on to my page! The connectors are just those red plastic conectors you get from car accessory shops, everything looks normal apart from the black/white and pink wires that have been cut and a conector put on the end, I'm fairly sure something aftermarket was plugged in there or the wires were cut to bypass a problem and the connecters just put on to cover the end of the wires (I've seen worse bodge jobs over the years!)
 
Does sound like someones handy work then. I'll have a look at the wiring diagram and see what and where those wires go.

The pink wire runs from the kill switch but there is no Black/white wire as standard to the immob ecu so i suspect that may have been added in. Without going into details for obvious theft related reasons should it fall into the wrong hands, bypassing the immobiliser involves the kill switch. If i understand your description correctly my assumption is it's bypassed.

Whether it's because you ecu is faulty u will only find out by reconnecting it as it should be.
 
Check this out, i had the same problem with my 04 factory, this is the immobiliser with a crack in the insulation resin,

i carefully cut round the casing with a dremel like so

till i could remove the casing to reveal the PCB, on inspection i found numerous dry solders where the wires join the PCB, i cleaned them and resoldered then put the unit back together and used a lead gutter sealant to replace the resin and keep it watertight.

Plugged it back in and the problem was solved, i have passed this info to others with similar symptoms and they followed my instructions with the same results, a fixed bike.

silly italians have the black/white wire labled as Black/pink in the circuit diagram just in case anyone else wonders why the diagram appears not to match the wires. (black/ white appears to go to main ecu)

Nic pics Badger show the problem well. Mine had bad water ingress and the tracking on the board was all corroded. It still worked though after a re solder.

Just thought I'd say that as far as I'm concerned the diagram is correct (in this regard at least) - the Bk/P wire is unmistakably pink.

What year is your bike out of interest.

Nice to know when they switched as it's deffo white on Badgers bike (06 i think) as you can see in the pics.

I'm quite a fan of AMP Superseal connectors, as they seem to be pretty water resistant - unlike the abortion on the end of the ignition key (my current bête noire), which seems to be specifically designed to let in and hold as much water as possible :angry

BTW, I don't have the crimper for the AMP Superseals, so I have to solder the tabs to the wires - less than satisfactory, but needs must..
 
Just had a weekend at the Nurburgring when The bike let me down. The red and white wire bottom left picture had melted and the bike would only rev to 3000 before cutting out. I pushed the wire back into the hole and it turned red hot. I had the immobiliser removed many years ago. I have also had a few issues with the bike eating batteries and now disconnect the battery after a weekends use. Other than the melted red wire all other wires looked fine.
Q Do you think a short in the loom somewhere has melted the lead or its just a faulty component. What is the red white lead for?
