if you have decent rear brake pressure....

does the brake actually work well?

mine has had decent pressure since i bought it so no air in the system but it is still crap at slowing the bike and has No feel, it can lock up the rear if i stamp on it but it's not much use.

This has been brought home to me since getting my old zx6r running with ebay goldfren pads, they are great. They actually help slow the bike when applied with the front, have loads of feel and it's really useful if i panel into corners too fast and want to hold a tighter line without cranking it over on greasy wet roads.

yeah i know the front brake is excellent but i'd like a decent rear brake as well

also has anyone tried to relocate the rear master cylinder elsewhere on the bike without griffs rearsets? (i've already got some Harris ones)
if so where do you recommend?
i assume its a case of just adding some longer brake lines and following the recommended bleeding technique but i'm not going to waste time trying this unless the braking & feel massively improve.

thanks

I know what you mean,my back brake works as good as it's going to but it just doesn't have the '' FEEL'' that the EBC H/H pad equipped SV 1000 does.

You can really trail brake with finesse if going into corners way to hot on that bike, mind you the fronts do tend to fade with track use.

If you find a way to get better feel from the rear please do share.

back brake ???? i didnt know my rsv had one lol

infact trying to get it working again tonight so i can out it through an mot !!!

i removed mine because I glazed my pads when I was going all the way to LA! I had forgotten to tighten my bolts in on my rear caliper! what a dumb *** I was!I will get some HH rated pads asaps. I just first need to fix other things on my bike since it didnt' run for almost a year. so last night I really needed my rear brakes since my front tire is 110% bald! lol

mine is the same its a good solid pedal but not a lot of feel not sure what pads are in but i might try some goldfren pads as the front ones are ace

The oem brake pedal has a really poor leverage ratio so doesn't transfer enough pressure from your foot to the M/C.

When i had Gilles rearsets on mine as well as solving the air in the system problem i also found the brake 10 times stronger due to the much longer lever. It had more travel before coming on because it was longer but worked very well.

My current Ducati has the same problem. No air but it's a token gesture power wise and does little other than act as a hand brake on a hill. Same silly short lever as most Aprilia's

I had some good results with EBC pads with the copper heat transfer plate! they were great and lasted for about 70 miles while dragging them all the way! lol

mine works good... dont what pads are in there but it does have a wavey disc on it... again... not sure of the make... was already on their when i bought it... plus Southern Cross lads drill out the mounting bolts so the master cylinder could be fitted at a slight angle... all free of charge... but it worked before they did that anyways !! :thumbup

so you actually have feel and stopping power?
i think it must have something to do with the disk and pad combo helping to negate the poor leverage from the m/c and lever.

does anyone else have a decent rear brake?

any tips on relocating the rear m/c without griff rearsets?
