How to tell one year from another...

Hi all,
Just wondering how ye tell one year/bike model from the other?
Just looking through the pics section, and as an Aprilia newbie its hard to tell.

Some of ye saw my "hello" the other day, (thanks for all the welcomes)....

I have, what the garage told me when I bought it last week, a 2001 model RSV that was Reg. 2006/first owned...But after looking through yer pics and ebay stuff I think it is actually a 2000 model bike?-Things like exhaust type, lights, and lack of seat cowl etc....

How do I find out for sure what year it really is? I have no owners manual either that might have had this info, so maybe ye could solve this for me:confused?

I am really happy with the bike one way or another...so easy to ride..with plenty of guts and power, and I just cant stop looking at it:eatcorn! I even go out on my lunch break to drool on the tank:inlove!!

i think yours is a 2000 model mate has a 2000 front end

Look at the VIN number on the side of the frame. It should show what year it was MFG, but it sometimes also depends on the month listed. If is says August of 2000, it will probably be considered a 2001 Model Year.

Your bike is a 2000 model RSV Mille, they were restyled in 2000.5 with new bodywork, engine tweeks, upgraded brakes, suspension linkage, revised shock and forks internals, red dash display and a host of other detailed changes.

You are right, it is a 2000 model.... But with the "06" plate, not even 2800miles on the clock, and the fact that its mint condition, it feels like I have got something special! An older style bike thats, well, to me, new if ye know what I mean!

Theres several ways to tell the difference beween the 00 and 01----the panels under the seat are different as is the shape of the tank the front headlight on the 00 is smaller the rear end on the 00 has small air intakes on the side you best have a look on the ride of the month in the november and december nominations there is examples of the different years

I only realised a month ago that the 03 had a different rear end to an 02, seems silly to change it for a year

O.K. Another question on the same subject... What is the difference between the RSV-Mille and the RSV-1000R ? Thanks.
Could it be the Mille designate 00- 03 models and 1000R designate 04 and newers? There a big model update for 04.

D'know what I think there's a plastic plate on the back that tells you the year!!!! It is a bit of a sod that Aprilia decided to change the RSV Mille to the RSVR and the RSVR Mille to the RSVR Factory confused? you will be..then there's the little changes in between & the somewhat infinite colour/decal changes that appear to be based upon what paint or stickers are available in the factory at any one time...Thankfully the Rotax lump stays 'relatively' the same...so they're all bloody good!
