How to get rid of the 3000 RPM mess

So I'm pretty new to the Tuono and to be honest I'm still running. The one thing I have noticed is the horrible hole that Aprilia have kindly built into the power delivery around 3000 RPM. You can't even hold a constant throttle with out giving a little spit and a fart. Anyway, I know why they do ( those bloody EU guys and there emissions) but what I want to know is what do people do about it. Just FYI, I've ditched those hair dryer cans and put on some MIVV carbon GP cans.

Yes it's a new one. So I assume that's a dealer thing,first service request?

If you's running flowing cans, then to be honest Map 2 prolly dont make a lot of difference ..well to me it didn't... I had a Power Commander put on mine and some serious dyno time... it kinda sorted out the problem, but ya do have to remember it aint a jap multi and theres some HOOOGE ole pistons going up and down and they aint to keen on gong slow.
Other thing that makes a massive difference in slow speed work is just changing the front sprox to 15t...

Oh, ive done the 15T swap. Done that on day one since it was clear that the 16 was to tall. As for the hole, it must be an emmisions thing since it's smooth up to that band and smooth after it. I'll try map 2 and see how it goes. I suspect it will be less of an issue once it's run in and I can use a few more of those wonderful revs. How I long for the day to unleash those revs. What's the score on the rev rang with these. I know they have the rev limiter but when do they run out pull?

The stumble does not get any better after run in, but you do learn to live with it.

Yeh just live with it & really as Mog said they love to rev so let her rev baby let her rev.. i have a 16T front sprog and am happy to keep her revin above 4 grand..
How often will you be plodding slow in traffic?

Tis one of the daft things i get asked (apart from 'hows the MPG' :lol) is how good it is for commuting... EH! stooopid question, if i did a lot of commuting i'd have brought the Mana..
As to the question of 'when do it stop pulling' answer to that one is easy.. when the rev limiter kicks in.
The power curve on my dyno chart is steep all the way to the top, dont seem to be a drop off like on a Jap Multi.
It truely is a different animal, happy to be short shifted and let the torque do the work or rev the nuts of it.

I do not have this problem with mine!

Either its the way I ride it or sumthing to do with the full Ackrapovic system, map2 and 15/42 sprocket combo.:thumbup

I have Akra slip-ons. From the word go, I have had faultless fueling from my T. My dealer did the map swap as part of the P/D, and it hasn't put a foot wrong since. :thumbup

I had the 3K mess with mine. Yesterday I had a power commander 3 installed and 4 hours of dyno time to set it up. 3K mess gone! Ultra smooth right across the range. I never realised how bad it was until I was able to ride through the town without it faltering and surging.

I'll second Map 2. Picked mine up on Map 2 but with standard cans. Note under the seat from previous owner advises switching back to Map 2 if I don't put aftermarket cans on.

Promptly get it changed to find it runs like a bag of crap with a big hole in the mid range. Immediately return to dealer who switches it back and mentions something about Aprilia rep putting demo bikes on Map 2 becasue it feels so much better.

Now have Akra's (currently without the inserts :D ) and it's smoother still. I'm thinking about fitting the inserts (to avoid unwanted attention from plod) to see if it runs as well.

Wot daft bugger asks about MPG when ur ridin somfink that lovs revin between 5 & 12 grand... doh *****:crazy:banghead

Bah! Fuel economy is for the weak! People who want fuel economy can go ride a cbr125 or holden Astra. I want bulk power and brown trouser moments - hence the Tuono in my garage.

I ride in traffic every day. The T is perfect. Most of the time i'm on and off the brakes and just winding back the throttle is such fun. So I would say that it is a traffic tool and once I finish the running in and switch to Map 2, the bloody hole at 3000 RPM will be history.

BTW, the bar ends are very resilient to car mirrors.

Mine ran like a pig when I first got it, was told it they are all like that. Got a set of Tigs and map 2 plus the 15t front sprocket, then it was better. Got the throttle bodies and CO2 set up done, different bike runs sweet with no hint of the old 3000rpm cough and stutter.

So it's had it's first service and Map 2 has been set. Totally cleared up the mess at 3000 RPM. Rides like a new bike.

Thats a relief isnt it! Good job well done
Is that the 1000 or the 7500 first service and is it with std pipes?
cheers Towie
