I branch into the Tuono Zone from the RSV Zone to seek advice on behalf of a mate.

He very recently picked up his brand new Tuono Factory R. His first 600 mile service will be due in a couple of weeks or so.

He purchased the bike from a dealer some 180 miles from his home address. He did this as he got a far better deal than anyone more local.

He has contacted a local dealer who will do the first service for £290. (No mention of wheather VAT is included or not)

He was informed by the dealer that it is a four hour service which includes oil and filter change as well as checking valve clearances.

Is this normal or is he being shafted?

He has contacted the dealer who he got the bike from and he will do the service for £200, but due to the distance involved it is not an option he can consider.

Thanks in anticipation.

I had the same problem. I tried a local dealer and they were going to charge around £290, so in the end I went back to the dealer I bought the bike from and paid £200 even though it was further away.

Some dealers include the first service in the price of the bike, some don't.

in my expirience if ive bought brand new bike,,,,(3),,,the 1st service is free all you pay for is consumables oil, filter and the like,,,,i got my T last year brand new and my service cost me £96 which also included changing fuel map and the oil filter cover upgrade,,,,,in my opinion your mate is being shafted,,,,,,if i am wrong i guess i just have a good dealer,,lol

yep,im in the same boat as yourself and the price youve said is much the same as ive been quoted, last 2 new r1's ive had were free first services but not the Tuono johny

1st service costs on each of my Tuonos was under £200 that was 2003 and 2008 from the same dealer I purchased the bikes from in each case.

Thanks for your comments. Had an update last night from my mate. He has done some ringing round and has been informed from a local Aprilia dealer that the service should only cost him £95 as a service memo was circulated to all dealers approx 12 months ago which stated that the valve clearances do not need to be checked at the first service. They only need checking at 12000 miles.

If this is the case it would appear that alot of dealers are ripping customers off good style.:jack

so it looks like my dealer is being pretty honest and i got the proper service cost,,,,,,thats made me happy but i feel for all those that have been paying top whack and being ripped off,,,,,

Hi,

I had exactly the same problem, supplying dealer too far, local dealer pissed off as he did not supply the bike - so he quoted a silly price and insisted on checking valves. Found a dealer somewhere in between who races Aprilia RSVs and he confirmed the valves don't need checking at first service. He also gave me an Aprilia Shiver for the morning to play on whilst he serviced my bike, great fun!

From memory he charged less then £200 and this included changing the front sprocket to the smaller one supplied as an extra with the Factory - tell your mate this is an absolute must to make the Tuono ride much better and smoother.

Hope this helps!

Yeah I think so - it's one less then standard, smooths out the slow speed throttle response and sharpens up the accelaration at the expense of a few top end mph!
