Hi,

I know this has been covered to death already, but humour me anyway please :)

I've owned the bike a week now, Already fitted a secondary earth from the battery to subframe, I tried to restart 30 seconds after shutting off today and it was still a VERY slow crank/Dash light weakened, It started for a second but i think i took my thumb off starter too soon.

I've seen alot of people have replaced the cable from starter motor from relay. Has anybody simply put a second wire from Relay to starter? and has that worked?

Thanks in advance

If you are on facebook look up https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1440265723&fref=ts

He builds kits for the V4 which consists of getting rid of the puny Aprilia positive and negative cables and replacing them with heavy duty (40%nmore capacity) cables from battery to starter relay, Starter relay to starter and battery negative to starter negative,

I have installed this kit and it works.

Ape cables

John Walker cables

Thanks, I've messaged him already!

Were they easy to install? I.E. no cutting original wiring, Just unbolt from battery and replace?

You have to make two cuts where the original live cable goes into the OE harness.

One at the starter relay end, just inside the rear subframe and the other is at the starter end behind the radiator.

If you send me your email address I will send you the writeup that I did as I installed mine.

There is nothing hard at all, it's just a little bit fiddly around the starter end.

It will all become clear when you read the writeup.

I've sent it to quite a few people recently and they say it's a big help and takes away the fear of the unknown [emoji106]

Out of interest how much does he charge for the new cable kit?
Ain't really had a problem with mine yet but might be worth the investment!!

Paid £60 delivered, They turned up 5 days later and I put them on last night, Took maybe 1 hour to fit.

I didn't take the tank off, Just fiddled round the left side of the bike, Hardest part was getting the nut back on the starter end (tight space+Ape hands) other than that it was simple enough.

Took the bike out today and it was definitely noticeable, Instead of turning of very slowly and firing up on the 6-7th turn, It's 2 moderate speed cranks and boom! into life!

Really takes the uncertainty out of stopping for fuel.

Ordered a kit myself from John (link to facebook page above here) not too bad to fit and has made a remarkable difference to the starting, id highly recommend his kit to anyone, very well made and reasonable price, I'm amazed how flimsy the original leads are though!!! its a wonder it ever started :lol

Makes a huge difference on those hot days, Its still slower than it should be but it will reliable start every time :)

Easy to fit too, However I did manage to arc the starter relay to the frame by forgetting to unplug the battery... numpty
