Another attempt to make my own air box mod after giving up on the Evo copy (didn't like the sealing set-up at the front of the tank)
Badger's photo on that thread gave me an idea to make my own homer ewe copy :devious (mines a 2000 model so other models you may have to adapt fitting to suit your bike if your intending to do this mod)

Took me a week to get the parts needed and the job done but it was worth the effort,,,I think it was anyway, kept me out of trouble with the misses for a while :biggrin

Bought some car boot seal from e-bay clicky

Using a dremel to cut my airbox lid down to use it as a base to fit the seal to..

Next...cut the seal roughly to length required and fit over the edge on the lid, carefully cutting slots and fitting with tab into screw hole cutouts as shown here

Once fitted, grease up and lower tank down to check sealing against inside of tank ( I had previously removed the foam on the underside of the tank)

I found i needed to put some extra support into the seal where it bends at the corners to prevent the seal flattening out. I cut some rubber left over from the boot seal and pushed into the fitted seal for the front corners. I also pushed in some soft rubber hose to go right round the whole seal.

I also stuck some foam underneath to help seal at the front, after re-greasing and trying the tank down again the foam was still needed to get a complete seal because of the awkward shape of the petrol tank at the front.

( yeah that bits a bit rough, but it's not seen and it worked :biggrin)

Once I was happy with the results, I removed it from the lid to silicone it and re-fit. The two mating faces were also cut to length and siliconed together.

Thats the seal done :thumbup ( Oh and dont forget to silicone the screw hole seal slot cutouts )

Next I cut a piece of rubber to seal the top of the filter

then some foam on top of that so when the tank was lowered it compressed to hold the filter in situ'

And there you have a homer ewe air ring copy for less than £10 :doug

Looking good Sprocker. As Newboots suggests, let us know what the performance gains are. Can you feel more midrange pull? Is there a noticeable difference in intake noise?

awesome sprocker!!!

Please let us know what differnce it makes to the power!!!:thumbup

I haven't tried it on the road yet ( fairing panels are off for some mods and no MOT) but the intake noise sounds just spiffing :devious

To be honest the performance gain wasn't the reason i've done it, it's fast enough for me, it's the sounds i'm more interested in.

Sprocker,

Thanks for posting this. If I ever decide to do it myself, I know where to look. Fantastic job. Let us know your comments once you've tested your bike fully.

Tidy job Sprock's, well done, better than an Evo kit for less than a tenner, can't be bad eh!!
