my 08 factory seems to be eating fuel badly at the moment had the service light come up but now filled up it has nt come back on, any common probs with these???

ff, the service light usually goes away when yer switch off yer ignition, it'll come back on when it detects a fault. A huvnae a clue aboot yer fuel consumption though.

I'm getting 65miles before light comes on (( I'm putting this down to London commuting, but will have full inspection with Griff soon )))

65 miles, are you going everywhere with the loud button fully on or what, either that or you have a leak!!!

Not at all, maybe sometimes ;))) Can smell petrol, but no leaks visible. I hope Griff will find a cure ))

65 is pretty bad, even goin along a bit you should get 80 ish....if yer screwin it it'll go lower, should easily get 80 + though !

before ah changed tae 15/42 sprocks wiz regularly gettin aboot 35 tae the gallon ( light oan approz 105 miles) Noo dropped doon tae 30 tae the gallon an light oan aboot 88 -90miles which is the doon side o awe that extra fun wi the new gearin....

....better tak a juice bottle wi me in ma rucksack, fu o petrol, oan this Killin run this Sunday!!!

well i know i have a diff sprocket at the front as i can get to say 90 easy but after that it gets lazy, so gonna clear the memory and count the teeth on my sprockets
i did ave a breather pipe come off the stepper motor 3 weeks ago lifted up the tank and put it back on

I'm getting about 90 before the fuel warning light comes on & I'm usually caning it on fast A Roads.

lifted up the tank and put it back on.

Lift it again and have a real good look at yer tubes and ****.

Don't think I've gone less than 110 before fuel light & yes I know where the throttle is. Must be something up there matey.

wow, gotta say stix i've never got near 110 before the fuel light comes on, are the gen 1 tanks bigger ?

The low fuel warning lights are not the most accurate in the world,so I dont believe you can guage fuel consumption on the amount of miles ridden before it lights up.The easiest way is to work out yer MPG.We all know that its effected by types of roads/conditions/throttle openings/etc.
My GenII does an average of 30mpg,and thats on twisty B roads and fast A roads.I fill up when the fuel light comes on,and make a mental note of the mileage.(Usually around 90) Normally,I get just over 13 ltrs in there.Yesterday,we went over to Silverstone and I got 40mpg.The route is very boring,...mainly dual carriageway. We kept the speeds down as the traffic was heavy and the Police everywhere.(70-80mph)I filled up with 105 miles on the clock,(no fuel light lit) and the tank took just over 11ltrs.
Alledgedly the GenII tank holds 18ltrs,....I've never got any more than 15 in there.
Oh,gearing?I've got a 15t on the front and the standard 40 on the rear.

Aye KB...ah calculate it oot properly everi time. Convert litres intae gallons then divided intae the actual miles run. Ahm probably a wee bit OCD aboot it actually...

....ahm aye annoyin the cashiers fur a VAT receipt so ah get the litres cos ah kin nivir remember by the time ah get hame.

ive never worried about how many miles per gallon, why calculate it? im not going to change the bike if it goes below 30 mpg. Ride it, light comes on, put fuel in, repeat.

Aye PMyth...thats awe very well if ye only tak yer bike oot noo an again an only go tae the paper shop fur yer Sunday Times but ah do the miles an also use the T a lot fur the run oot an in tae work which is 60 mile roond trip.....

....... so the drop in mileage means ahm at the petrol pumps daily now instead o every couple o days...maks a fair difference in that context.

ok i see that Rico, so would you change the bike because of this? or are you spoting mechanical problems early?
