Just thought I would start this thread to say hi, and introduce myself.

Picked up my 2007 RSV two weeks ago. The guy I bought it from purchased it new last August, fitted carbon Akrapovics, hap the remap done, fitted a nice tail tidy AND the bike is the limited edition Bol D'or colour scheme. Anyway, he decided that it was too powerful for him, despite not having run it in, so I guess his loss is my gain.

So I bought it for a crazy price, with 500 odd miles on the clock, 5 months old.

I love having a big twin again, I used to have a VTR years ago that was fully sorted and was an amazing (under rated) ride. The noise, grunt and looks are amazing.

One small problem occured today though. It had its first service this week (£321 for Gods sake!!!!!) and when I was about 200 metres from home, it just completely cut out. Engine turned over, but would not restart. Naturally I was a bit pissed off, fearing some nightmare Italian reliability issue was about to curse me.

So I phoned the dealer, who could not come out until Monday.

Anyway, I decided to have a look myself this evening, and found that the fools had left a connector partially connected under the seat. Plugged it back in and hey presto, everything is fine again.

Looking forward to riding it properly now I am not restricted to 6000rpm. Weather looks good for tomorrow.... Bring it on!

Welcome rsvnutter:thumbup, glad you got it fixed so now you can enjoy the sunday biking weather :thumbup

Welcome home RSVNutter! Never trust those shop! 321GBP. That's 600$ did they rebuilt the engine or what? If you're any good with tools you should do you're own maintenance, well as much as you can. Never mind the time it takes, you'll be proud of yourself and know you've done a good job. I do my own maintenance on everything I own. Just change the clutch on my pick-up truck! Took my time, check everything. Will be fine for next summer. My RSV as yet to be work on, but rest assure I will do it myself. (I've been working as a mecanic most of my life).

Alright mate...enjoy. managed to get out for a good blast today....I'd almost forgotten how much grunt these beasts have!!

I'd be a bit wary of that dealer mate. Highly expensive for a 6000 service, never mind the first one AND then they leave a connector undone! Wouldn't be too impressed myself.

Welcome to the site, plenty of advice to be had here!

Service

Hi All

When I bought the bike, I checked around various Aprilia dealers in the South of England. They all confirmed the same thing - 1st service (at 625 miles) is a biggie. 2nd service at 1 year or 6000 miles is comparatively small. So 1st service is 5 hours according to the service manual. reason being is that valve clearances etc are checked / adjusted. I have the Aprilia workshop manual in PDF to confirm this. At £45 per hour, plus oils etc, the £300 ish price is about right - I got quoted as much as £400.

For me, servicing at home is ok, when you dont have to worry about a 2 year warranty. And, to be honest, as a wise man once said, "their time is cheaper than mine". I'd rather ride at the weekend than be up to my arse in oil and bike parts.

Anyway, I can console myself that the next service is a minor one so will be back to normal world prices.

Welcome on board RSVnutter :thumbup

Dont know how close you are to kilburn, London, but if its not that far I'd recommend you use Southern Cross Aprilia. Its 70 mile each way but well worth making the trip as those guys know everything and are very competetive on the price. Plus its a good ride out :devious:thumbup
