Not far from you!
HI

Just registered on here and was hoping someone somewhere will be able to help me. Ive just brought a 04 plate RSVR, took it out for its first test right today and i have stalled it twice when approching round about's while changing down gears. Maybe its just the fact that im not used to this bike as it is my first V twin. Before i got this bike i had a Kawasaki ZX636 and was always riding it up in the revs. Im guessing the RSVR bikes also run their best when they are nicely warmed up? What should these bikes idle at, 1500rpm?

Im also looking to but a steering damper for it but really dont know what one to buy?

Many thanks, any help would be muchly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Mark,

Firstly it shouldn't be stalling, is your idle RPM too low?

Should be around 1250RPM.

You say it's an 04 plate RSV is that the old or new shape?

Not too sure about the damper, perhaps worth looking on Ebay for one, alternatively look here. Click me

thanksyou amb67 for the quick reply :)

Yes it is the new shape (twin headlights in red and grey), on a 04 plate. I would say that at the moment it is idle at just over a 1000rpm so its not far off. Im not even sure on how to adjust this, i have ordered a service manual off ebay and im still waiting for it. Im also going to change the coolant.
Really nice bike im really pleased with it and it sounds amazing.

Just this stalling problem concerns me

Thanks

Bugger, another member scammed by those buggers on Ebay.

You can get those manuals for nothing on this forum and others, if you have MSN add me and I'll stick them in a shared folder for you.

Sounds like a nice bike, need some piccies adding to your garage.

Tweek the idle up a little, should be running at 1280 plus or minus 100 rpm. If it still stalls when approaching junctions and round abouts then it will need the throttle bodies set up. Search on the forum and you'll find some good tips from Spoonz and Sabre regards CO set up data.

how does it run under 3-4K? If there is any roughness in the delivery it may well be down to badly set-up fueling. An aftermarket exhaust that has not been set-up could cause this.

Firstly, welcome ukcustombike

The idle speed on new shape 2003.5 onwards RSVR and Factory is not adjustable. It is factory preset. Yours appears to be correct at around 1100 to 1200rpm

The stalling you are experiencing when changing down the gearbox i.e coming up to junctions etc.. is more than likely due to the throttle bodies being in need of balancing and the CO2 correctly resetting. Is the bike running the standard or aftermarket cans?

Before you bought it, did the bike have race cans fitted and the owner put the standard cans back on? This is important as there are 2 maps within the ECU, one for standard cans and one for open or race cans.

r896neo indeed there are after market exhausts on this bike but i wouldnt say that it runs rough, i will try to adjust the idle revs and see if it sorts it, i dont indend using it much this year due to the weather, its so mint i want to keep it that way. Will try and add some pics on here once i work out how lol.

oh and i wish i had of known i could of got that manual on here, dame it.....nevermind.

thanks

As your cans are race cans, the ECU needs to be set to MAP2 if it already isn't, then the throttle bodies correctly balanced and the CO2 reset. This can only be done by an Aprilia dealer using the AXONE diagnostics. This should cure your stalling issue as it's a common issue with RSVR and Factory.

Just to note, ask the dealer to download the latest fueling Maps using the Axone whilst you're having the above done, the later maps improve low rpm throttle responce

hi legs
firstly thanks for your help.

i am now the third owner of this bike and the guy i brought it from didnt have the original exhausts as i did ask for them, the bike has after market stainless steel race cans on and that how i brought it. They are E marked and pass an MOT without any problems (with baffles in).

So what your saying is there is a good chance that the bike isnt set up for the cans that are on there?

Thanks again

is it going to cost me a fortune? :(

thanks for the advise looks like i need to get it checked out....

thanks Legs thats a great help i have a main Aprilia Dealer just up the road from where i live.

Glad its something that can be sorted easily, this bike is totally different to what ive had in the past, i love it.....

Cheers LEGS :)

Hi i am new here also and are needing a manual, How do i download one off here?
Has anyone any suggestions on how or what size Baffle to put in my standard pipes as i gutted them last night, sounds like 3inch fit.

NZBritten.

Workshop manuals and other interesting stuff can be found by clicking on File Vault at the top of the web page.

when i work out how to do it i will post pictures of custom parts for my new bike that i will manufacture over winter time ready for next summer. I have just finished some bullet shaped polished stainless steel bar ends to replace the standard ones and now working on some front wheel crash bobbins.
Im a Engineer, CNC Miller.
Be good to see what responce i get.

Cheers

yea a CO set up will probably sort your problem and also give you a few more miles to a tank.

I had it down last month and it cost £38, This was on an 03
