Hi can anyone help I recently changed from zx9r to a beastie mille but I have an issue of having strange tyre wear on the front tyre and am not sure if it is cos it is a dunlop or weather the bike is the cause. The bike has only done 500mls in the last 3 years so could te cause be the tyre also it has a 180/55 on the rear the book states should be 190/50 can anyone think why someone would fit a smaller rear tyre........sorry forgot to mention bike feels like it wants to go straight when cornering too.......

I run a 180 its a good tyre, quicker turn in is the reason, so they say

Have you set the suspension up for your weight?

If in doubt swop tyres mate. Dont ask which ones , click on the search and type in tyres, there are a million threads on em :thumbup

Welcome to the forum. :thumbup

What kind of tyre wear are you seeing, can you post up a piccie?

Strange tyre wear and the fact that the bike won't turn in is most likely due to either a seized steering damper, head bearings worn or incorrectly adjusted, tyre pressures incorrect or even poorly maintained front forks.

Also worth checking the rear suspension links are all OK too.

HTH and don't forget to ask if you need any further advice. :eatcorn

Welcome to the forum mate, from another former ZX9R owner........great bikes ! :thumbup

Great forum, though, this one mate, and you`ll soon start to love the RSV once you`ve got it sorted onto your own settings, etc....

Just ignore the fact that I`ve now got a Blade..........the RSV is still an awesome bike !!!!!! :hail

Don't get to caught up in the technical stuff, my front tyre is starting to wear in a slightly odd way and the reason is very simple I ride 40 miles in a straight line then I have about 2 miles with several roundabouts I then do the same trip home again the result of this is that my tyre has this odd kind of ridge just off the center all my bikes have done this its possible the previouse owner may have done something simaler plus you don't no how long those tyres have been on there, as for haveing a 180 on the rear I think you'll find its pretty normal both me and my other half run 180's on our milles as do quit a few of the other guys on here I think.:)

it actually says in the book (for the '01 that I've got anyway) EITHER the 190, or the 180. the tyre wear may be due to the tyres being dead- they aren't supposed to be on there for 3 years plus. Get them off then you'll know if it's just the tyres or a little bit of suspension twiddling is needed also.
IMO it's pointless even getting your suspension set up if your tyres are shagged!

thankyou...I thought that it may be due to lack of use, I got the bike about 6 weeks ago. the mileage was just under 5k I have done about 350 miles since then i can feel no stiffness in the headstock or damper. The rest of the bike is like new so hopefully new boots and reset of settings will hopefully help....does anybody know the basic settings as i am confused by both the handbook and the aprilia workshop manual.......

mine feels a bit like that mainly at low speed no stifness in the headbearings but when i had the forks done they said with no weight on the bearings were rough and fooked just ordered some from marksman will do them soon

remember all roads are supposed to be slightly cambered to allow water to drain off them so a odd slant on your front is normal if you do a lot of straight roads. it took me along time to figure this out and i have gone through a lot of rubber over the years
